Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

I wasn't expecting that and it really made me upset, I started to cry.....

I know it's everyone's choice whether to see it, but don't they think they would hit a sore spot showing it during a show about NYFD?Chat Icon

Re: Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

personally I thought is was an odd choice- you have Tommy crying and drinking about what happened that day

and then the ad for the movie

I read in people that the Movie is a true story- but I am wondering what those 2 men are getting from this????

and if a donation is going to be made from the proceds

personally - I will NOT watch it- I think it's too soon- maybe in other parts on the country it isn't- but for me it is-

I read that the families gave their blessings for the movie.

I am interested since it's about the rescuing the few survivors of the attack but I know it's something I want to watch at home too.

I wholeheartedly agree. MIL wants to see it and I just think that there is no way I could watch the whole thing, I was hysterical from the preview....but I also lost an aunt and knew some firemen that didn't make it out.....Chat Icon

this will be the only Nicholas Cage movie I will never see.

I love him, but I just can't do it.

They actually had a special last night on Channel 2 at 7:30. They had on Oliver Stone, Nicolas Cage, the other actor (don't know his name) and one of the cops the story is based on. The families are 100% behind it and I believe 10% of the profits are going to the memorial fund.

Re: Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

I first saw the trailer when DH and I went to see DaVinci Code, and I had no idea they were going to show it. I was so upset.

I personally won't spend a dime to see the movie, now or when it comes out on DVD. The wounds of that day are still too fresh for me. I did see an article on MSN they gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

I think those in other parts of the country might view it differently than those of us that lived through it here.

that's good- I feel better about it now

when I told Jake I read the story in people and the family was ok with it- he said he felt better about

I think they really need to get that message across in this area

I will be curious to see how well it does here vs other parts of the country

I do want to see it. It will be hard to sit through - i know that.

I was home sick in Long Beach on 9/11 and I watched the news. but I did not see it first hand.

I think watching the movie will show what it was like for all those people who were there, who lived it.

The guy who went through it was saying it was a story of hope and an inspiration. It focuses on what the two Port Authority officers went through more than anything else. I felt a little better about it after watching the special last night. I still think I would not be able to watch it in a theater, or even if I could watch it at all. I can understand people not wanting to see it especially in the tri-state area.

I saw the special on Ch. 2 last night and I've read about the guys who they based the story on. I'm iffy about wanting to see it. It does look good though. I worked on the upper west side at the time it happened...but I live on 15th & 7th. Not too far from WTC. It was a surreal experience being in the city that day.

Yes, but just to think about the individuals you knew and what they must have gone through is something no one should have to keep reliving.....

I am happy to know that the families are behind it, they are the ones that it matters to the most.

Re: Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

They had Joel Siegal on Good morning america this morning and he said that he got very upset by the movie.. and that you should see it as your own personal choice.

That alot of people are not ready to see but the familieas of the victims feel that it makes people remember and not to take anything for granted..

I personally can not see it I was very upset by the clip they showed this morning. having working in the city on 9/11 it is something that will forever change my life . All i remember is standing on 5th and 37 th seeing flamess shooting out of tower one.. even before the 2nd plane hit.. or lisitening to the radio and hearing peter Jennigs speechless when towers fell..

I feel the country needs to remember and alot of people really do not know what it felt like that day but I think new yorkers feel this very close to not opening old wounds

On the Today show earlier this week they had the two men this story is about. I think after seeing them talk about what they went through, I could understand wanting to make a movie about it- although I do think it's still too soon.

I will say it again...DH and I will NEVER watch this movie. He almost lost his life that day and there's no way we could sit through that movie...reliving the most horrible day of our life. I don't appreciate the fact that Hollywood wants to make money off of the most horrible event to ever take place in America. It's so sad. I hope it TANKS at the box office!!!!!!!!!!

I know i am in the minority here, but I do want to see it.

Unfortunately I personally know people who perished that day and in the war as a result of that day and I just feel like I need to see it. For them, for me, for my FH, I just think that it seems to have been done tactfully and without hollywood nonsense. I am happy to hear the families are behind it and that some profits will go to them.

Re: Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

My question is- and not to cause drama- but how is this different than Schindler's List or the myriad other movies made about that tragedy? It is because of the timing? Or because 9/11 happened to us?

Maybe these movies are "too soon", but I feel a greater injustice would be if these movies were never made and the whole thing was forgotten. Let's face it- for people that 9/11 didn't affect directly- and in a world that pretty much does not read- movies are the one way people learn about and remember historical situations.

For me it's the timing, it's too soon. Yes, many movies about the Holucost have been made, but I can tell you that my grandparents and other family members who are survivors of the Holucost have NEVER seen them. They don't need to see a movie to remember what happened. My grandmother to this day will still tell us (on the rare occassions she does talk about it), how it still feels like it happened to her yesterday.

I really don't know how to explain what I feel. I just know that for myself and my family...we could NEVER relive that horrible day. I understand your point about having to learn about history...but I feel therre is a better way to go about this. What about a documentary on PBS? Interviews with survivors, family of those who have passed, NYPD, FDNY. Why does it have to be in the movies...popcorn, soda, wait on line, pay $10? That's a MOVIE...this is REAL LIFE (and death). I don't think Hollywood should profit from 9/11. I don't think the actors should get Emmy nods. Let us just honor the deceased, the families and the memory of 9/11...not profit from it.

I have never seen Schindler's list or Flight 93, I go to the movies to get away from reality, not to relive it or see how someone else interprets it.

It is definitely too soon for New Yorkers and many others as well, and if there is no other way to "educate" people than to make a movie, then we have a bigger situation on our hands.

For many people, 9/11 and many other tragic days will never be forgotten, movie or not.

You should see schindler's list.
what is wonderful about it is- it tells the story of a man- who in one of history's darkest times, was a beacon of hope for some many. It showed that no matter what happens- there is till good in people- and that there are people on Earth that will help their fellow man out even if it means they, themselves, would get in trouble. Who knows- maybe this WTC movie has to do with that too- at least that's what the two men said that the movie was made about- that it is about how everyone came together that day, to do good in the face of evil.
I think any movie that makes people think, hey- life is more about "me and my family"- I should think of other people and help my fellow man- is a good thing

Re: Rescue Me had a preview of the World Trade Center last night

My DH worked at Ground Zero for months before I met him and we actually went there on our first date. It was a personal moment and highly symbolic for us. I worked in the City that day too.

I did not want to see it. Then I started watching information about the guys its based on and hearing that they were fully behind it, it started to change me a little bit.

My DH DOES want to see it, for himself, he feels that he needs to. I will support him if he asks me to go with him. He is considering going with his friend whom he worked with those months but they aren't sure if that would be a good thing to do together. In that case, I told him I'd bring them, pick them up at a bar, whatever if it is important to them to see it.

I think it's a personal choice but I believe a lot more than 10% should go to the various funds.
