was this a slumber party of two?
or many kids?
If it is many kids...how do you know WHO she got it from?

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

humnn on one hand no...I hate lice...on the other hand...lice happens with kids.
In the end, I probably would, however, if something else were to happen, then I would probably put a stop to it.

yes. as long as they've fumigated. Lice prefer cleaner hair - so it's not a cleanliness issue.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

slumber party, 6 girls. One girl brought it, host caught it...now her mother has to call other 5 girls to let their parents know. Host mother is nervous that her home will be viewed as "lice house" and people will hesistate accepting the next invite over.

I know lice hits everyone...it is a huge inconvince, but it happens. I would not stop my kid from returning.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

I remember Lice was so bad in our school we would have daily checks for weeks. We also had to put our coats in plastic bags.

I would hope her parents did everything to get rid of the infestation.

ETS, I would let my kid go back to the house.

from your last reply it kind of sounded like you were the host.

To answer the question, I don't have kids and I've never had lice. Since I can't really assess how bad it is, I can't really give an answer. sorry!

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

my cousin was the host. The other mother called her 3 days after treating her daughter's head to tell her be on the look out. So my cousin is ******, why wait 3 days? She tore her house apart, treated her head and her kid's...

But they go to a caddy Catholic school, full of gossip loving mothers. She is nervous of the aftermath, but she had an obligation to call. What's right it right...if it is caught early on, it is so much easier to take care of.

I would let my child go back knowing the situation was taken care of.

IE: stuffed animals thrown away or washed
linens washed, etc.

Seriously, kids get lice all the time, and it's very easy to not realize your child has it.

How can you blame the parent? It has nothing to do with one's house being clean or dirty, it's about kids playing with one another.

I would never not let my kid visit someone's house because they got lice. It's a fact of life, like a cold or chicken pox!!!

Yes, kids get lice all the time, but I would know, as would my child - if she had lice. Isn't there alot of itching associated with lice??
and I do my daughters hair all the time, and I'm always checking. and i never said their house was dirty!!

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

OK...so whose house should the child not go to?
The host or the other child who brought it to the house?
But i agree with Chris...and WOULD NOT let my child go to the house of whom the child that brought the lice...

IMO if that mother couldn't be that thoughtful to TELL someone IMMEDIATELY...then i think they are an unfit parent and would never want my child there

Sorry, I did misread the bit about the host mom being mad (I read it as being mad at the host mom).

I had lice once as a child - they're difficult to see if your child has very thick or light-colored hair - it was a little itchy, but not as bad as you'd think. My mom didn't know until a letter went home from the school saying other children had it.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

I would most defintiley let my kid go back. Yes, lice is kind of gross, but it's not that big of a deal.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

I would let my kid go back. As others have said, it's a fact of life, an annoyance, but a fact of life, get it treated and move on.

Though I totally agree that the parent of the infector should have told the host mom as soon as she found out, not after treating it.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

I would let them go back. I had lice in 2nd grade - it was an annoyance, and i was devestated since my mom had to cut off all of my hair (especially since she had finally let me grow it after having it in a mullet - that's right, a mullet).

But I digress...

It's gross, but as long as it's treated, it's not a huge deal. The mother probably was embarrassed to say anything since lice carries the stigma of being 'dirty.'

Just encourage kids not to share hairbrushes/try on hats at stores, but there's really nothing else you can do. As said about, it's unfortunatly one of those 'kid' things.

Re: If your daughter caught lice from a slumber party

yes of course...Lice is spread from child to child. Its not something a child typically gets again and a again or harbors and that child probably got it from another and so on. Lice has nothing at all to do with being dirty etc...Its caught from one person to the next. It doesnt "form" from something like dirt.

But be careful. My friends daughter had it in the summer. she washed, she threw stuff out, she was fanatical about cleaning it up etc and yet she and 2 of her other kids all got it anyway Chat Icon
