I smoked until the day I got my BFP. I haven't had a cigarette in almost a month. If I was not pregnant I would definitely still be smoking. Not because I think it's a "cool" thing to do, but because I actually enjoyed my cigarettes. I know that sounds gross, and a non-smoker could never understand that, but I liked smoking. I was well aware of the health risks and was going to quit soon anyway, but while I had 'em, I smoked 'em.

Right before I read DJ's post I was thinking the same thing 50+ responses and not one smoker? I am a smoker-want to quit but will quit for sure when I get pG obviously

Quit 2 months ago when I got pregnant- was really easy
Now that I am pregnant no longer, its really hard but worth it to me to stay away from them.

I use to smoke I had everyone on my butt about quiting but i stopped smoking in 1989 I am glad i did and I thank everyone who has helped me!!

I smoke..been smoking for 14 years and I hate it, I hate what it does to my body, but obviously I get pleasure from smoking and the withdrawel is too much for me to take....But will stop as soon as I get PG , hopefully evensooner.. Tried to quit many times, Its soo hard.
I give quitters so much respect.
Nicotine addiction is stronger then heroin addiction so I truly hate when a non smoker says, Why not "just "quit... If it were that easy I'd have done it , well, 14 years ago....
eta- I just noticed theres more smoker and ex smokers then those who never have....thats interesting...

 MY bf Anthony has been smoking for 14yrs too. Since being with me, 4.5 years ago, he's tried quitting, but would start up again after a couple of weeks. He quit again Monday. I hope he sticks with it. But, like he's explained to me a million times, it is a serious addiction.
I respect you for wanting to quit when you get pregnant. I know women who smoked throughout their whole pregnancies.

Well I really cant answer this that well...and I dont like having to explain it to a non smoker , because you as a non smoker could never understand, theres no way unless your addicted to understand...and actually its scientific fact that quitting smoking does more damage to your body then heroin withdrawal and addiction...I didnt just make that up....
Of course it "can be done" , everything can be done...
my wording was towards people who tell you just quit as if implying it was easy. Some do that and I think their idiots to simplify it that way, if we smokers could "just quit" and it were easy , we all would....
I cant quit for me, because the withdrawel is too hard to go through right at this moment, but when I know I have another life that has no choice in the matter, well Im not that selfish and cruel to smoke and possible injury my own child...

i didn't think you made anything up
But i guess i assumed since there are clinics and rehabs for heroin addicts and none that i know of for smokers....that it would be harder to just stop.
As far as the stopping of smoking...well sometimes i really feel the need to understand...because i don't....I just do not at all...
So i saw the opportunity...
Still don't get it and still find it sad

I have tried it but never became a habit.
Both my parents smoked when I was growing up and it made me sick and always angry about it. Like they had no regard for my sister and I. Our clean clothes always reeked of smoke. I am very resentful about it! I would go over friend's houses and their parents would always accuse my friends and I of smoking because of the smell...I couldnt escape it.
And now, I am married to a smoker...but he only smokes outside the house or in the bathroom with the door closed and the window open.

I guess it's really hard for us to understand. God knows I try with Anthony. His mom's side all have emphysema. His dad side a lot have lung cancer, yet he made a decision at 16 to start smoking. And we've had endless arguments and every time he stops, he starts again.
I also really want to understand, hence why I always pester with questions like why and how come.

You know how they have AA for alcoholics and something else(can't think of the name) for families of alcoholics?
If they had such a thing for families of smokers, I would definitely join. Because, as both Anthony and I have realized, I have resentment towards him because he smokes. Like if he got cancer but it wasn;t his fault, I 'd be very sad. But in the future if he got lung cancer because of his choice, and he knew the consequences, part of me would be so angry at him.

Great to hear, but everytime I go out, all around me there are smokers. Basically all of my friends and acquaintances smoke. Most of their families smoke. They are surprised that I don't.I am always the outcast (not that I mind it). But especially if I'm at a bar with people, everyone goes out for a cigarrette except for me.
