Poor Bella!
She has croup...developed on Sunday night. She woke up with a little cold on Sunday and we went to my Dad's after the doc said it would be OK as long as she didn't have a fever. She wasn't really herself all day even though my family told me I was nuts because she was the best baby ever...but I knew she wasn't as smiley and happy as she normally is.
Sure enough after we put her to bed she had this nasty hacking cough that kept her up the whole night and she had a low fever. We called the doc at 9 am from Connecticut and they took us at 11 am...amazing! I really love my peditricians. He basically came in just for us and another sick child. It was only him in the half-dark office. He gave us a steroid and said it may be a day or two before she felt better...
She is still coughing pretty bad  so I took off today, I just couldn't leave her at daycare even though she seems totally fine other than the cough...I mean she is sitting in her exersaucer beaming at me right now!

if you need any help with it let me know kryssy was the worst with that!!! i know alot of little tricks with it to help ease it for her and you! ps she should not be in any daycare at all!

Awww -
Ryan had this a few weeks back... and it was so scary....
I was also given a steroid (oraprid...or something like that) to give to him... but only if it got worse...
Im not big on meds. so I waited it out... and sure enough it went away on its own...
Im sure your Dr told you, and everyone is gonna post this BUT:
Sitting in the bathroom letting the hot steamy shower run, works wonders! Vaporizer @ night, and sleeping in a carseat /swing... also does the trick!
Also- J&J make baby vapor bath... I found that very helpful as well... Ryan loves the bath.... so I would just put a little in, gave him some toys, and just let him play....

thanks everyone! Croup is an icky sickness, oh how I hate the sound of that cough...
Thanks Marissa, I actually didn't know about the J&J bath, maybe I will try that...how many days did it last for Ryan???
Honestly, Bella is an incredible patient  I told my DH to take some tips from her, cuz he gets so whiney when he is sick

It lasted about 2-3 days.....(the actual coughing) the mushyness last another day or 2....

Croup is so scary. I hate hearing that gasp for air.
Be aware that she may have more temper tantrums with the steriods (even if it's a mild dose). A child psychologist told me that while the drug will be out of her system after 2 weeks, it can take up to 8 weeks for her adrenal gland to re-regulate itself.
