I saw this yesterday and I honestly couldn't figure out why it mattered. So what he exaggerated for artistic purposes. He's a writer that's what they tend to do. If you enjoyed the book then what does it really matter? Just because some elements may have been embellished doesn't mean that he didn't go through a dark and distructive period and come out alright.

I think the problem is that he's been so emphatic about it all being true and claiming that it was not a work of fiction.

In all honesty, I haven't read the book. Just curious, is it being sold in the non-fiction section?

Yes... apparantly thats part of the controversy. He shopped it as fiction and no takers. Once he said it was non-fiction, it got published.

Ah, I see. That makes it a bit different, but still, that is creative of him.

yes.. it was very creative.

I haven't read the book, but at the doctor last week there was a woman in the waiting room reading it and she said she had to put it down because it was so intense because it was non-fiction... I think had she known it was fiction, it would have had a different effect.

I just called my friend, and she saw the story on the Today Show this morning. It was saying that there was no evidence that he ever committed any of the crimes that he claimed he did.

This upsets me..I was so into his story. I was planning on reading the sequel, and now I don't want to, b/c I don't want him profitting off lies!

So, you're upset that he's lying, but you were fine with all of the crimes he committed? Chat Icon

Okay, I definitely see your point. I was not fine with the crimes he committed, but it made his rehabilitation all that much more powerful and interesting. It makes me wonder how much more of the story is either fabricated or an exaggerated. One of the reasons that I was so drawn into the book is b/c I believed it was the truth, as it was marketed as non-fiction. I just don't like seeing people profitting off of lies.

I'm not saying that none of it is true - i'm sure that the majority of it is, but perhaps the book wouldn't have done quite well without his embellishments.

I know it's the way the world works, but I hate seeing people making money off of lies - I can be a bit idealistic.
