Re: mens rooms

My guess is ladies rooms are just as disgusting as men's rooms. It's that I woudn't want my 10 year old daughter in a room where men are peeing especially when it's completely unneccessary.

Re: mens rooms

Wow! Every summer from the time I was 7 until I was 15 or 16 I would go to my dad's in va... he would come pick me up, and then we'd drive down 95, stopping once at one of the rest stops... I don't remember ever ONCE going into the men's room with him. He would always stand right outside the laides room and wait for me.

But, then again, I guess that was a different time...

I don't think I would have stepped foot inside the mens room though Chat Icon

this was my reaction too. It's a men's room, not a roman bath house.....

I would rather trust her with her father than a stranger. I would trust that my DH or my brothers would take her in, use the facility and leave pretty quickly. From the times I crashed the men's room in college bars because I couldn't wait in the long line, I don't remember seeing anything but men's backs.

As for the cleanliness, I bet the women's rooms are dirtier than the men's rooms. My friend's DH managed a few fast food restaurants and said the women's rooms was always far grosser than the men's room.

crashing a college mens bathroom when you are in college is a lot different than being 10. what we see as an adult is a lot different than what you see or perceive as a child.

I dont think cleaniless was an issue- a public restroom I never expect it to be clean, I think it had to do with bringin a 10 yr old into the mens room.

this is a good topic, lots of different views on here.

Re: mens rooms

I wonder how many of you who find this so appalling actually have children........I asked my DH and he agreed also he wouldnt allow our 9yr old in the bathroom all by herself at a crowded movie theatre

and what if something happened while he was waiting outside for her??

Re: mens rooms

You dont actually have to have children to have an opinion about what you would do with them.

I stick to my original answer..I would not bring my 10 year old daughter into a mens room. Her father could have waited right outside the door for her..if he felt she was taking too long, send someone who works there in to check on her. At 10 years of age also...she should know what to do if god forbid someone came up to her or whatever. I know there are crazy people out there but I just dont see bringing my daughter into a mens room.

And no..I dont have any children just yet, but I do have a brain capable of holding an opinion.

Just like you have a right to your opinion, I have a right to mine. Also, as a man I know what goes on in men's room and it is not even close to what you ladies are describing.

Re: mens rooms

Just my 2 cents, but I would rather have my husband bring my daughter in the men's rooms then leave her outside by herself.

I dont' think she's off kilter at all. I wouldn't want me daughter walking by a guy peeing outside either. I'm sure you're not walking around waving your penises & having sword fights. If you had only booths to pee in, then it wouldnt' bother me so much.

And in the end, a 10 year old should be able to enter a ladies' room by herself - and as a parent of 2 - I would expect my DH to be waiting for her outside.

Re: mens rooms

I witnessed this a few months back. I was waiting for DH to come out of restroom and saw a father with a girl and boy walk out of the men's room. The girl had to be at least 9. I was shocked. I think at 9 you are capable of taking yourself solo to the ladies room. It was union sq on a Saturday afternoon, the place was packed. I can't imagine that a wacko was in the women's room waiting, but I can imagine that their was a ton of men in the men's room. What is weird is, okay the girl is in the stall, then what? comes out and waits while the dad and brother are peeing?

Re: mens rooms

Personally, I don't have children...but have watched my friend kid's or taken them to the movies and there is no way in h*ll I would let them go to the bathroom by themselves (even at 10).
This is a time when children are being kidnapped and molested everywhere and with the greatest of ease.
To me, it's better to be taken into the men's room with your dad and most likely shielded from any damaging views...then to go to the ladies room alone or with an attendant. What would make anyone think a bathroom attendant is safe? Do you really think there is heavy duty screening for a job that pays like $5/hour.
Nope, stay with the kid at all costs, that's my motto.

Re: mens rooms

Some people are comfortable letting their children go into a bathroom alone and some are not

that is the bottom line

I have a 9yr old daughter and I think she is fully aware and capable of knowing what to do if a stranger approaches her BUT I would not let her be put in a situation like that

I think 10 is old enough to go to the bathroom by herself in the ladies room. I would expect DH would be waiting outside for her.

If it was DH that had to go to the bathroom, I'd rather him ask an attendant to watch my 10 year old daughter while he goes to the bathroom. Taking her in at that age would be too strange.

I agree. And I've seen people open the doors and ask if anyone wsa in there and say out loud, "I'm bringing my child in".

Re: mens rooms

No I dont have children but babysat for many many years and I still have to disagree.

there is 1 way in and out of a movie theatre bathroom, at least thats all I have ever seen so I cant see something happening, and why cant the father just pop his head in and yell out- Jane r u ok and wait for a reply, Im sure there are lots of woman who would think how sweet of a dad, checking up on his daughter. How long does it take for a kid to go to the bathroom? A couple of minutes I think you would after 3 min, pop in and say something.

I think showing your daughter some independancy like going to bathroom byherself is better than exposing her to the mens room where men are peeing in urinels. Im sure thats a good show and tell at school.

Ive been in a mens room, and seen men going while waiting for the ladies bathroom, you can see enough to blow your mind away at 10 and to ask questions a parent may not be ready to discuss at that age.

Im not saying they are perverted but I dont think its a good thing for a young girl to be exposed to that- if the bathroom is EMPTY than go for it, but not while there are men in there.

there are other options for sure, wait, hold it, go to a fast food place where its more intimate- ( i know how intimate can that be) but you get the idea.

For me parent or not I would never and I can def say never to this would I bring my daughter or let DH bring our daughter into a mens room, I think this is a good eye opener and discussion for the DH if in the event they come to this.

I feel he is an adult- hold it in- how far are you from the movies to home? are there not any diners, restaurants, McD's you can pull into and have your kids wait in the car for 5 minutes with the door locked or come into Mcdonalds? the restrooms are pretty private in the back.
to me that is not fatherly to bring your daughter into a mens room, men anything room! JMO
