Re: spinoff to - can someone tell me
I think it is different lifestyle that we lead compared to our parents. I know from my parents My mom was a stay at home mom who also had a small business out of the house until I was late in HS. She was able to clean the house Prepare dinners and drive us all over. She had more time to garden, run to the stores etc so that when my father came home at night we were able to do things as a family. Vacations weren't to diffent countries or islands they were camping and to lake george. More people worked mon to fri and had the weekends off and most store were closed on Sunday or opened lated and closed early. There was time to work on houses, do gardening, and spend time with your families.
Now days both spouses work a million hours plus overtime in somecases weekends and dont have time. My DH works 90 + hours a week on his only day off I cant see him cutting the grass for the lously $20 a week that I pay the landscaper. It takes them 20min to do what will take him 6hrs. It is sometimes easier to work the extra couple of hours or take on a second job to get things done professionally and correctly the first time.
I wish I could have done my whole house right away but I have been here for almost 2yrs and still dont have living room furiniture. My dining room was someones hand me down. When I get the time or the $$ it will get done.

We do what we can ourselves, but certain things are just worth paying for.
I agree!!
Growing up, my job was to mow the lawn (front and back...we have a 1/3 of an acre) so when we bought a house I didnt even consider getting a landscaper. My DH....grew up in an apt and never mowed a lawn, told me that he wanted to do the lawn himself! It takes him about an hour and a 1/2 to do the lawn and edge and in that time I clean the house. So for us, it works, whereas other look at house chores and just that chores that take away from "play" time. Personally, we bought a house so that we could put our touches in the house...not hire someone to do it.
