Sheet cake w/ filling and buttercream icing. The one I'm getting for my son is shaped like the number "1". Nothing over the top in terms of creativity.

Sean's 1st birthday cakes were $80 (the big one) and $45 (small Elmo one). I made cupcakes for his 2nd Chat Icon kiddie party and did the BJs thing for his family party. Chat Icon His 3rd birthday cakes were $50 (kiddie party) and did BJS again for the family parties. We're BJ'd out here. Chat Icon

I'm getting Kevin's from Dortoni in Levittown. Just wanted to see if I'm crazy for spending over $100. Chat Icon

I had a cupcake tower for Julia's 1st b-day and I got it done at a bakery, it cost us around $150. I had 45 cupcakes made up.

I had half a sheet cake and a little cake for Jared made up at Super Stop and Shop (their cakes are so yummy!) and it cost about $40.

At my favorite cake bakery a 16 inch cake which serves 60-80 is $98.00. Yowsers! My dd first birthday party was 12 people, so I didn't have to spend nearly that much!! (Although I did pay an extra fee to get special decorating done!)

Re: How much did you/would you pay for a 1st birthday cake for 60+ ppl?

I had a 10" round cake for Elena's bday and it was $41 - but that was w/$5 extra for the special design I added.

I think over $100 sounds like alot, Kathi.
Dortoni's is good - but there's another bakery in that area - on Wantagh Ave, I think? It's really good too...you might want to give them a try and see if they give you a better price.

Re: How much did you/would you pay for a 1st birthday cake for 60+ ppl?

After spending $70 on Christopher's Christening cake (after using a 10% off coupon) and ending up going home with the majority of it and then throwing it away, I ended up getting a BJ's cake for his first birthday. Believe it or not, it was DELICIOUS and almost the entire cake went, because people were having seconds. Plus, if you're having a theme, they decorate them really cute. We had a Winnie the Pooh theme:

it depends...
I answered $25 or less because I made my sons 1st Bday cake and smash cake and made his 2nd bday cake too.

BUT if I there was something that I wanted to buy, had to have it, didn't have time, etc. I would pay just about anything.

No offence, but that is insane! I'd rather save that money for my DC's future than to eat it in one day.

Claud...my "regular" bakery which I didn't use for Sean's cake wanted $95 for less than what Dortoni is doing for $125. I tried a new bakery for Sean's party (did you try that cake? Chat Icon) and while I thought they did a great job decorating it, the taste didn't WOW me. I need close to 70 servings, so I'm not Chat Icon over Dortoni's price, KWIM?

I know Costco/BJs cakes are good, we've had them a million times... I just want something more unique and "special", so I'm avoiding those cakes this time. Michelle, why don't you make Kevin's cake in your spare time? You know his party is the day after the boys' so just bake 2 cakes while you're in the kitchen. Chat Icon
