REPOST from LIW: My MIL gave Amber liquor!!

She was babysitting at our house and we had leftover wine coolers/beer in the fridge. I told her it was OK to give the baby diluted juice so instead of her reaching for a Juicy Juice box or one of the kiddie punch bottles readily available at the front of the fridge, she reaches into the BACK of the fridge (behind the beers) and opens up a bottle of Mike's Hard Lemonade. She gave the baby a four ounce bottle of this stuff!! I didn't know what was going on until I got home, saw the half empty bottle in the fridge (confirmed with Bob that he hadn't had any) and realized what had happened. He called her and she said she didn't realize it was liquor! C'mon, it says HARD lemonade on the bottle. Plus it says 5.something or other % MALT LIQUOR!! Ugghhh, I called poison control and they said she should be alright since it was given to her early in the day. Thankfully she didn't think the Martini mixer looked appetizing for the baby

Lesson to learn: Don't leave irresponsible IL's alone with booze and baby!

OMG!!! I don't blame you for being really upset! All she had to do was take a look at the bottle.

There must be something about Mike's Hard Lemonade that makes people think it's non-alcoholic because my BIL tried to give me one last weekend at a party (I'm 32 weeks PG)...I told him that I couldn't have it and he said "why not? There isnt any liquor in it." DUH!! READ THE BOTTLE!!!

I suppose the word "LEMONADE" is misleading. But, any reponsible adult should take a look at what they are giving a child. I mean...come on!!!

Thankfully, she's okay. I definitely don't feel comfortable having her babysit anymore but I don't know what to do about it since Bob feels his mother can't do anything wrong

Please, I had reservations after his SIL told me that when she was babysitting her son, she put him down for a nap (tummy down) with a Boppy wrapped around his head. She happened to come home early and heard him struggling in his crib. She didn't know what the Boppy was "for" and assumed it went around his head

Oh my god!!!! Truthfully keep your baby as far away from that lady as possible, you;re dealing with life or death situations here. Someone could call CPS on her and YOU for you putting yopurchild in her care!

I never really believed the SIL because I thought she was trying to freak me out or something (stir up drama). But now I'm definitely not down with the situation.

My mother has offered to watch the baby full time (all five days) and that's the way it's going to be. I don't care if hubby is ****** or upset. I'm not leaving my babies well being in the hands of someone that irresponsible.

You are absolutely right!!! She should not be with the baby. This is not a little mishap. What rationalization could your DH possibly have for that?

OH MY GOD!! I am soooo glad Amber is okay! You couldn't make this sh** up even if you tried. I think you are making the right decision. You have to think about what is best for you baby. Again, I am sooo glad Amber is okay.

***? why on earth would she do that? Thats no good for a baby, I have heard of a Pin drop or pea size amout of Scotch for teething rubbed on gums, from the old days and my dad has done this when samantha cries non stop but I mean a tiny amount on his pinky

That was one of my biggest fears when I left my son alone with my FI parents, thankfully they are good with him...I hope your little one is okay!!

There was mad drama at my house last night. I told Bob his Mom would not be babysitting on Mondays anymore and things got very heated. It's not that he's not upset over his mother's "mistake", but the fact that he's now going to have to stand up to her and tell her WHY she cannot babysit. Like she can't figure out why I might not be comfortable with it?? I flew into a total rage and told him like h e l l was he putting his mother's feelings over the safety and well being of my baby!! Those days are long freaking over!!

I don't know if he gets it and really, I don't care. I told him if he doesn't clue her in, I will be happy to make the call myself!!! Enough of the eggshell routine. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE, this is my baby!!
