Remember my problems with Coach? Need your help if you are willing

Remember a while ago I mentioned the problems I had with Coach customer service not standing behind their smaller leather goods for more than 1-2 years? Well, they sent back the wallet I had sent to them and included a condescending letter about how they were pleased it had served me so wellChat Icon

I went on vacation, came back and started a new position at work and then realized that I am still bothered by this and I am not through with them.

If you ladies would be so kind as to respond to this post if you think Coach's return policy is ridiculous to only cover small leather goods for 1-2 yrs, I will fwd our thread to them and maybe they will see that they are potentially hurting themselves with the Long Island market.

Thanks ladies!!

What do they consider small leather goods? For as much as anything "Coach" costs - they should offer to warranty it FOREVER!

That's very strange. I sent back a handbag. Even though they would not fix it, they sent a very nice letter with a coupon for 40% off my next purchase.

1-2 years for a wallet??? That is RIDICULOUS considering some of their wallets go for $300!

Did they offer to repair your item at least? I am a little worried now because I have an issue with one of my purses... Chat Icon

That's crazy. The whole point of buying a Coach wallet, as opposed to a $15 wallet is that you expect it to last a long time and for the company to stand behind the quality and longevity of the product.

Don't worry they are good about the handbags .. She is referring to small leather goods.. A 300 $ wallet is not a small leather good .. so don't worry

Isn't it their tanning method that makes the leather warrantied for 20 years? Why should it be different for the SL goods?

A few yrs back my cousin was waiting for a bus in Manhatten, minding her own business...when she saw a coach bag that was tossed into the garbage can next to her. She took it out and as a fluke sent them the bag, just to see "what if"
well.... they sent her a new one Chat Icon

So I would say YES.

**Juliet, sorry for all your troubles,COACH should stand behind their product!

I've brought the same Fendi leather watch band to be fixed, twice already at the 5th avenue location. Both times I was greeted with a smile,no questions asked, free of charge.
BTW: the watch is @ 10 yrs old.

I agree - I don't understand why they are not willing to stand behind the quality of their items - are they trying to send the message that their small leather goods are not high quality? Are they trying to tell us that they will only last 1-2 years? If so, then they are overpriced!!!!

Since I really only have small leather products from Coach, I will now reconsider buying anything from them. For the prices they charge, a 1-2 year guarantee is ridiculous.

wait a minute, so if my wallet falls apart after 1-2 years I'm out of luck? All that money down the drain?
Why would a wallet have less of a warranty than a bag?

Re: Remember my problems with Coach? Need your help if you are willing

You reminded me why I picked Kate Spade over Coach when purchasing a wallet seven years ago. It is still in perfect condition and that is after it was stolen, returned by a good samaritan in the mailbox and sent to the post office.

I can't believe that a company that charges so much for their product would not stand behind it. I doubt I would purchase anything from them in the future due to this policy.

I used to work for Mark Cross leathergoods - for those of you who remember them they were very expensive, high quality leather. The issue we had with warranties on wallets was that they tended to get abused by being over-stuffed. A wallet intended to hold currancy, a drivers license, and 2 - 4 credit cards would be brought in damaged and the card pockets clearly would have had 6, 10, 12 or more cards jammed in stretching and tearing the leather and or lining.

Additionally, the $$$ does not necessarily mean it's more durable leather. It may mean that it's very soft calf skin instead of more durable and stiffer cowhide. Calfskin is soft, pliable and wonderful to hold and forms to a pocket and of course more expensive because calfs are smaller than full-grown cows, but that does not translate to $$$=Holds up forever.

Without seeing the wallet and the nature of the damage I can't pass judgement on the issue but given that they overall have exemplary customer service I would guess that your wallet might have been mistreated in their eyes, pushing it beyond the limits of it's intended use.

While I agree with the fact that some people do overstuff their wallets, I have to say that this wallet in reference belonged to my brother who hardly EVER had money to fill it and not many credit cards (no credit for a while). He treated this wallet like most people treat special occasion clothing. He actually didn't even carry it for a while in the beginning except on special occasions.

This is the first problem I have ever had with Coach and it is why I am so surprised and feel so defeated and want to fight harder.

I wonder what Mark Cross would do in this situation. Would they back the wallet indefinitely or put a limit?

Re: Remember my problems with Coach? Need your help if you are willing

I am actually going to the Coach store next week to see what they would do with my bag. It seems like my Signature bag (not the small one, but Med. sized)the fabric has sorta kinda worn away. I have had this bag for about 1 yr. and thought the quality was alot better than that. Do you think they will give me a new one??

Thanks for posting this, I think I will spend my money on another brand!!!! that is insane they dont stand behind their product and what a shame b/c I am a big coach fan or should I say was.

edited to say how embarrassing if one of my bridesmaids wristlet that I bought 6 of them broke or faded and coach doesnt stand behind their product to help them! A little disturbing when at least on Long Island that is a big bridal party gift giver!!!!

I want to add one more thing here... this is a pet peeve of mine and I have seen it happen with other products.

when a company switches their manufacturing to China, what else can be expected? how can you compare Italian hand made with Chinese mass produced? Chat Icon

when I asked a sales person at Coach why their bags are now made in China and yet they still cost as much or more as when they were handmade in Italy her response was "we're expanding our markets"
