Well over all my commute is about a hour and a half.
I leave my house at 7:30. walk to the bus to take to the train and walk another 6 or 7 blocks to my job.
I get in about 10 to 9

That's about it
Thats what I do. I used to have a commute similar to yours - the worst is the subway and when you have to get from Penn to the east side. It is exhausting. Can you change your hours at all to at least not be with the crowds? Although from the sound of your job I'm guessing that isn't a possibility:(.

Same here- an hour in perfect conditions, but because it's so far there are lots of opportunities for disruption.

i drive 45 minutes each way (on a good day with no traffic). i get really excited when i make it home in 40 minutes
driving is the worst--at least if i was on the train i could read or sleep. morning radio is terrible too.
i deal the best i can. that's all i can do--well, i also complain about gas $$ also!

I used to commute to the city and it was 1 1/2 hrs. I would read, sleep or knit to keep busy. I hated it, though. I am much happier on LI.

I used to and my husband still does.
Doesn't/didn't bother us at all.. its totally worth it for us.
In fact we were already used to the commute because before we moved it took 1 1/2 hours plus from QUEENS. 
DH reads like a madman anything and everything and has his Ipod.
I used to sleep

FH commutes every day to NYC which is about hour and a half. I really feel for people who commute.

Obviously, I know your commute but I don't take the bus. It's so long - I hate it. I take the train from Maplewood and there is a lot there that you can pay per day. That gets me into Penn Station in about 35 minutes, then I walk to Manhattan Mall to get the b/d/f/q train to Rock Center - but you can pick up the n/r from there too. It probably takes about 1 hr 20 min or so but I find it better than sitting on the bus.
You can also take the train from Millburn, but I think you need a town permit to park in the lot.

DH does. He sleeps on the way in, listens to his ipod and reads the news and the post on the way home.

I also commute from NJ to the city. I take the PATH train from Harrison (I drive to Harrison - 10 - 15 minutes), PATH is about 20 minutes then walk from WTC to Wall street near the water, about 15 minutes. Door to door is under an hour.
