**Official CLOMID thread**
I thought since so many of us have been on, are currently on or may be put on Clomid, we should start an official CLOMID thread.
That way we can talk about our experiences, side effects, successes, etc.
And it can also be a forum for asking Clomid questions.
Thoughts??

I guess I should update my own thread, huh?
I started 50mg of Clomid Saturday 7/23.
So far the only side effects I have had are moodiness (DH is staying on the other end of the house) and some headaches.
Also, an obsessive need to clean and straighten anything I see. I think that's a byproduct of the moodiness thought.
I have 3 more pills to take then I start to use OPKs on days 9-13 to see if I get a surge.

I guess I will try to help you guys out
I started on 50mg in November, no O...so I was bumped up to 100mg in December and I did O, usually on CD 19 or 20.
My side effects were moodiness...I flip out over the stupidest things sometimes. Some weight gain...I am battling it still. Definite hot flashes...I broke into a sweat for no reason at all, like dripping down my back sweat. And I think I am more tired while I am taking it, can't seem to get enough sleep.

Lisa- Some docs do 3-4 and some do 5-9 don't sweat it that you are starting on a different day.
I think it was Gerty who talked about the hot flashes...ooh man! Holy crap do I get those!

I started on day 4 under my doctor's orders. It seems to vary a lot as to what day to start.
He told me Clomid on days 4-8 and OPKs starting CD 9.

Question- is it "stronger" then someo of the other meds? My RE said she would not want me on it at all for risk of having multiples, ( adding it to IUI treatment). Yet she said we will in 3 months if IUI fails try another med.

What clomid does it tricks your body into thinking it is not producing enough FSH. FSH is the hormone that makes your body produce eggs. By tricking your body into thinking it is not producing any, it makes even more FSH so that your body makes an extra egg (or two). IUI does not really have any effect on multiples (when used on a natural cycles) but clomid increases your chances of multiples by 3%. If you move on to injectables you can produce even more eggs, this increases your chances of multiples even more.

Well, that would explain why I have been soooo uncomfortable the last couple of days when I usually love the heat.
Ooh it stinks! It makes my sleeping just miserable! I get up all the time sweating. UGH The good thing is though that the day after I take the last pill the side effects usually stop as well

hmmm...all I know if she said, if 3 IUI's fail then we will go to med's , but not clomid, and she was nervous of meds due to risk of multiples, so I thought maybe she meant CLomid would result in that...not sure WHAT she meant..LOL

The material they gave me on Clomid said 10% chance for twins and 3% chance of multiples.
The IUI shouldn't have an effect on that, I don't think. 
Does anyone else feel overloaded with information sometimes!?!?

Believe me I have been thinking about it. Too much so, and need to stop and take it slower... I get upset because not only do I have to worry about just getting PG, then I have to obsess about staying PG...UGGHH!

I just figured I would share some of the information I have gathered while researching this subject. Clomid....does trick the body....and it activates cell growth. It may thin out your lining ....and that can be a huge problem for a person who had a miscarriage. Since a large number of miscarriages occur due to implantation issues. Clomid also is not ideal to do alone without IUI because it dries up cervical mucus. IUI avoids....cervical mucus issues...and that's why RE's usually go straight to IUI when they prescribe clomid. It also has the tendency to cause cysts. Clomid stays in your system....so ...ideally, doctors who monitor clomid users...will not allow their patients to remain on the medication for more than 6 cycles....most RE's say 3 cycles. Because of the risk factors involved. Sadly, I know of women who have been on clomid for 2 years because they didn't have proper monitoring.
Femara....or Letrozole in my opinion is preferable. Letrozole is a medication that's used for breast cancer patients that went through menopause. Letrozole is now being used to treat endometriosis and uterine fibroids...and induce ovulation. Letrozole doesn't.....thin out the uterine lining or dry up cervical mucus......so that if you are actually opting to do IUI , you can still BD at home as well...and not have CM issues. Or if are not doing IUI but need ovuation assitance.....it works well. Letrozole leaves your blood stream....and doesn't stick around the way clomid does. The side effects are usually less noticeable, but some people do complain about hot flashes and moodiness and headaches.
Both these medications decrease your estrogen levels...and that's what triggers the brain to release more FSH ...and therefore,...more follicules develop. Again both these medications have to go through the pituitary gland...to stimulate the ovaries...so if your pituitary gland is dysfunctional, you may benefit more by injections. Injections stimulate the ovaries directly.
Something very important to consider in this whole TTC process...is not just the bfp...it's the birth of the child. You need your uterus to be strong ...full of blood and great lining for the baby to implant ...the beginning of implantation occurs around 7 dpo but....it continues throughout the first trimester ....Many miscarriages occur because ....lining isn't adequate etc. of course many miscarriages are just a chromosome malfunction and there is no way to prevent those. Make sure...the medication you are receiving is the one that "works" for your individual situation. Re's follow a protocol.......please make sure you are a partner with your RE.....you need to be your own advocate...and research what you feel may work for you. Don't be afraid, to suggest things to your RE......and to step back and make sure what they are suggesting is truly what 'YOU" need.
Unfortunately....some Re's will continuely.......inseminate their patients and try all types of medication ....and sadly the patient doesn't conceive. A friend of mine....had that happen...and when she switched Re's....the new Re suggested laproscopic surgery to make sure endometriosis wasn't getting in the way....Well sure enough....she had severe endo....it took hours for them to remove all they could. Her new 're' said...."it would never have happened"......she is trying again, and I pray she has success...but...sometimes ....the laproscopic surgery is not in the protocol, and a situation can go undiagnosed.

WOW, that is a lot of ellipses there red! You make excellent points.

This is what happened to me...the chlomid was thinning my lining...my endo was only at 5 for my first 2 IUI's. I am taking estradril (I think) which is estrogen...and the last measurement I got was the the endo lining was up to 7 for this cycle...which the dr. said was good. I'm hoping this cycle of IUI works!
