Re: Would You Be Mad?

shelley....
i know. thats what scares me. i told him these things and lets hOPE they sink in.
while in vegas we allow us only $50 per day to do gambling each. and we just do slots. he was saying how he wants to do poker this time and i said "HELL NO" simply because what the hell am i gonna do for hours while he's doing that?! but now after this i ownt let him anyway. theres too much of a risk.
i have to say he truly doesnt have an "addictive personality" but theres too much chance.
he told me he'd only do hte free one from now on so i hope he means it and can do that.
im going to have to be a super snoop though now.

I know what you mean, but there are certain I personally feel I can't borrow from. If you do it all the time, that's cool. I don't know if I would have the right to be mad at DH since you did use some of the rent money to buy him a ticket. IMO Chat Icon

well it was MY rent money that paid for it---which was then actually spent on gambling.
i wouldnt be mad if it actually went to the ticket.

Sounds smart of you! And hopefully, you will get him to see why you are upset with the way he spent the money. You gave it to him for one thing and he spent it for another.

I hate to tell you this- but that has nothing to do with it. This may be his only vice. He may not be addicted to anything else but this.

You have a right to be concerned, but if you don't trust him, I would see if you can go somewhere else where there is more to do than gamble.

Not to mention, you can't keep your eyes on him 24/7. There is gambling gonig on 24/7. We checked into our hotel at 3:00 am and people were playing then. If he wants, he can play a quick hand of poker while your in the bathroom, sleeping, etc... You would never know.

Do you really want to have to be "super snoop" on the vacation to celebrate your first anniversary?

Have fun!

Just be careful... you are treading on (potentially) dangerous territory if you feel that you have to snoop... JMO.

As long as you can talk to him about it and make him aware, I think that is what is important.

On a different note, I cannot believe it is almost your 1 year anniversary already! Time flies. CongratsChat Icon

Re: Would You Be Mad?

Can I ask a question without you thinking I am completely out of line, because I dont mean to be.

Why are you going to Vegas if you are in a financial lull? I mean, I know everyone deserves a vacation, even if times are rough. But Vegas? If you cant afford it?

Im not understanding.

Anyway, I agree that you need to watch your DH. 50 dollars can turn into 5000 dollars. If he is going to Vegas, what business does he have gambling online?

Re: Would You Be Mad?

I play online poker occasionally.

But as much as I love playing online poker... if the money was that bad in the household and you were struggling to make ends meet... if it were me I wouldn't be playing anymore.

So although $50 isnt too much... i would still be mad.

Re: Would You Be Mad?

Okay, at the risk of getting flamed I am going to say this.
Yes he was wrong if he used "your" money to play the game. But, and this is a big but...it was $50 and he only did it once. I don't know about you guys but I go shopping a drop $50 or $100 on clothes or shoes without thinking about. My DH never does that, but he does occasionally go to a poker tournament or game and drop the same kind of $$$$. I figure it's all even at the end, we just spend in different ways.
Maybe, just maybe, your DH just wanted to try it. It's not like he lost the $50 and then took $150 more out of the bank.
PS...my DH did play poker twice in Vegas and spent waaayyyy less than I did on the slots. $40 buyin on a tournament and one day he won back almost $500.

Re: Would You Be Mad?

I would be annoyed that he used money to gamble online when you're going to be in Vegas soon anyway and that the money could've been used for the rent or going out last weekend.

I hope you guys go and have a great anniversary though Chat Icon Chat Icon

we are not in a complete lull. it kinda just happens to be this past 2 weeks since we are saving up for vegas.

but,..... the thing is we planned on going to vegas with our income tax. and with $4000 (which was our money back) that is more than enough to cover it.

perhaps the wording "financial lull" was poorly chosen...... mayube what i should have said was that we are trying to save up for our trip and are cutting costs on unnecassary things.

does that mke more sense?

like, going to vegas isnt going to burn a whole in our pockets or anythign because we are just using some of our income tax, so its like a free trip anyway

Re: Would You Be Mad?

thanks guys! i appreciate EVERYTHING said here.

gerty..... no flames whatsoever. you make very good points. i guess i just wish if he were going to drop $50 he would spend it on a physical object of some sort ya know.... something tangeable.
but i definatly see your point and im actually really glad you said what you said because it made me see a different POV.
