How can you tell it's time to put your baby down for a nap if they don't show signs of tiredness...
DS is 3 months old and doesn't show signs of tiredness. Yes he starts crying but he could be crying for other reasons too like a diaper change or that he just wants to be picked up.
So how are you supposed to know when to put him down?

If he's cranky then it's definitely his way of telling you he's sleepy. Other signs include, rubbing eyes, yawning, loosing interest in activity.
At his age, after 2-3 hours of wakefulness he should be ready for a nap. I know you said you got the Weisbluth book, also try reading "Baby Whisperer". The Baby Whisperer talks about the EASY method (eat, activity, sleep and you). It's a cycle that you follow throughout the day every 2-3 hours (also depends on baby's feeding schedule).

DS is almost 3 months old. We don't really put him down for scheduled naps. I have noticed that DS has a little cycle - hungry, happy, cranky, then we soothe him and he falls asleep. I really don't think that babies are bothered by dirty diapers. If he is crying it is most likely because he is hungry, cranky, or has gas. Hope that helps!

Do you have a rocking chair or a glider?
If so, when you see he starts crying, go to the rocking chair/glider and start rocking. We give Ali her pacifier and we know she is tired cause when we do this, she rolls so the front of her body is facing our chests and then after a little while she calms down and starts to fall asleep.
If you do not have a rocking chair/glider, then put him in the same position as I mentioned above and start swaying your arms from left to right. That makes Ali go to sleep as well.
Some babies do not show signs of tiredness, Ali doesn't all the time, we can just tell from just paying attention to what she does time and time again (practice).
He may want to be picked up, cause he wants to be soothed to sleep.

Yeah but if he falls asleep in your arms then you can't put him down cuz he will wake up...
He is an extremely light sleeper. Is anyone else's baby like this. That sleeps very very lightly with the eyes slightly opened? Could it be that DS is a high need baby and that's just the way he sleeps. Or Do I wait and see if he grows out of this as he gets a few months older. Right now he's trying to go down and wants to sleep but his body keeps twitching and he keeps waking up with these body jerks.
My DH has anxiey and jumps in his sleep and my MIL has nerves and jumps in her sleep as well. Could these conditions have been passed down to DS.

I am not sure about it being passed down from family members - that is something you will need to research.
Ali sleeps with her eyes open - we call it the one eyed sleep - she watches everything we do, but she is sleeping - it is weird. She really only does it when she is in her swing.
Is he sleeping in your arms like that?
My opinion, I would keep trying to put him down in his crib when he gets like that - he will eventually learn that it is sleep time. Or even just let him lay in his crib, does he cry when you put him down or does he just wake up?

I don't let him sleep in my arms. If I put dim down in the crib and leave then he will cry as soon as he realizes he is alone.

No I thought it was unsafe to leave toys and stuff in the crib because of SIDS.
Besides he doesn't show much interest in reaching out for toys. Maybe I should start encouraging him in hold stuffed animals...

The problem with mobiles and all these musical things is that they shut off quickly like after 15 minutes...
Oh and at night if I lay him and leave the room he starts screaming!

Could DS be a high need baby? I've also read that babies who sleep lightly are usually high need babies and that this will interfere with their sleep maturity as they get older.
Or that this is how they will be. That it is just their personality. Great something to make me go out of my mind...

At night how many times does Ali get up?
Maybe once a night. She has been sleeping through the night for a while now - pretty much after we started giving her formula - which we started over a month ago.
It seems if we give her the cereal before 7:30 - she will wake up at about 4:00-4:30ish. But then goes back to sleep after.
She usually goes down for the night at about 10:30ish and then gets up at about 6:30ish.
We keep this in her crib:
It is in the corner - where she can't get to it now - she isn't that mobile in the crib.
But she loves it - it is called Hug & Learn Baby Tad.
It lights up and plays music. She rolls on her side and stares at it and in the mornings she babbles/talks to it.
The have 'nighttime' music that you can play continously for 6 minutes - which is a great break for me when needed.
During the day I will play the music - the shapes on it chest lights up and she reaches out for them. My DH and I also think that she hummms to the music - I know it sounds weird, but she makes noises to it.

Have you tried a swing? My baby wouldn't nap in her crib until about 5 months, but she would in the swing...

DS did this too. He does not sleep on his back. He'd twitch and wake himself up and it was driving me crazy. Now that I have him sleeping on his belly, he's a thousand times better and sleeps great!

See you have 10:30ish bedtime for Ali and she only gets up once...that's pretty good. So I why do they that with an earlier bedtime they wake up less?

If you have tired changing him, feeding, burping him and he doesnt really want to play and is still cranky most likely he is tired. Luka's first nap is right after his first bottle in the morning and that is always his longest nap of about 2 hours. After that I always try to put him down 1.5to2 hours after he wakes up. So if he gets up at 9am I try to put him down around 10:30/11am. I noticed that he gets cranky and that's my cue. He only rubs his eyes at night. He doesn't always go down for a nap. He will usually only take 2 more short naps a day. I would also try walking outside. It knocks out my son and it's good exercise for me too so you can try that.

Most of the time she is awake - she wants the attention.
She plays with certain play animals we give her.
She doesn't like tummy time either, but we try and do it a couple of times a day so that eventually she will like it.
I think as for him not liking certain things, just lay them in his lap and see what he does.
Do you have a boppy pillow?
I would lay Ali in that and she would grab her toys and play with them. Now she sits up and plays with them.

Generally every 2hr or so your child is ready for a nap...
I would watch the clock... and just put DS in his crib... awake- and he would just go to sleep...
Sometimes he showed no signs... sometimes.. Id see him start to rub his eyes...
But other than that- if you wait for your child to telll you (but crying, and such) then your too late...
At that point your child is OVERTIRED... and your napping/nap time sleep could be interupted...

As far as toys, we have the Aquarium Kick and Crawl gym mate and he really likes it. I started using it around 2 months and at first he would just stare at the things that hang down and around 3 months he started to reach for themand now he goes nuts swinging them all over the place. Everything is still so new to them at that age and they have no idea what anything is its your job to show them to him.
