Do you feel people are selected for a job
based on other factors besides their experience and what they have to offer? i.e. looks, weight, etc?
I saw a perfect example of this today. I went on 2 job interviews today, and not to be rude, but the girl who was applying was not exactly attractive. I know, I know, who am I to judge. But you could tell, when the HR manager saw her, she had this look in her eye.

if a job doesn't want to hire me because i'm not attractive then i wouldn't want to work for them. i would want to be hired for my skills not my looks

Appearance has a lot to do with people getting hired. It's a proven fact.
I do think it's a shame because there are many people who are more qualified for the position.

That wasnt the question. It's a yes or no question. Obviously a hiring manager is not going to tell someone, "Sorry, you're just not attractive enough".

yep- if you looked around the room on the first day of my Macy's excutive traning class- almost every single girl was a size 6 or less and pretty
there were a few expections- of course her Dad was president of Bloomingdlaes at the time
so that helps also

depends on the job
like, if you were working for a gym ,you want a fit person at the counter
or if you do alot of client meetings, you want someone with a clean and smart look about them, not some slob.
so yes it does affect you how you look.
HOWEVER, ive seen ugly people dress beautifully and put nice makeup on and they look great! i have also seen goreous people look like slops.
so if you make a nice appearance, wear flattering clothes and nice makeup, i really think you can get any job

I think in life looks really affect almost everything. Guys only let me merge into their lanes when they see me (which is not to say that they would if they saw the whole body  ). The deli guy gives me free slices of cold cuts. People hold doors and then not for other people. It's sad really.
When I worked on wall street everyone at my company looked like they should have been in magazines. it just isn't natural. they can't have been hiring the *best* candidate and have them all be stunning.

Yeaaaaa that is the way the world turns and the cookie crumbles. The best part of my job is wearing my jammies to work. I have been to interviews and had dh pull some strings and the errrr frumpy ( for lack of better terms) plain Jane would always beat me out.
