Can I please vent about DH and Mothers Day??

Ill be lucky if I get anything for mothers day... what I DO get is my DH playing golf in the morning because he does it every Sunday then working at a BS job at the golf course in the afternoon usually until 6 then coming home to me cooking dinner for my mom, brother DH and my kids.Chat Icon This has been every year since Ive been a mom. It turns into a huge argument between DH and I about how it would be nice to spend Mothers Day with him and the kids being nice to me and I get the BS that Mothers Day is just any other day and we can celebrate during the week when he is working for himself (he's self employeed). I guess it goes along with my 1st wedding anniversary with DH... I got to spend it with my ILs because my DH decided that it was more important to go fishing with his friends THEN come home to his parents (upstate) and instead of waking up with me the f'er went golfing at 6AM then came home at 1pm and wondered why I didn't want to talk to him...

Can someone please tell me why my DH is such a selfish prick?

Was he like this before you got married? I think it is a little inconsiderate of him to think of himself first on these days.

That sukks, Karen. Seriously, how inconsiderate can he be? Chat Icon You should plan to spend Father's Day at the spa and leave him home with the kids. Chat Icon

I really don't understand it ... and I have no intentions of not going all out for Father's Day -- he is a great dad and so he deserves it, and maybe it'll give him some ideas of what he can do for next year's Mother's Day.

Did his mom or dad say anything to him when he didn't show up at their house? Maybe he would listen to another person's opinion.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon If you find out let me know...DH has been in VEGAS since Thursday morning for a Bachelor party and doesn't understand why I am so upset at the fact that he didn't grab an earlier flight, I mean he IS getting in at NOON!!Chat Icon God Forbid he misses the extra 9 hours he got at the pool...jerk!

Couple that with the fact that this is my first Mother's Day and I haven't celebrated Mother's Day in forever because I don't have a relationship with my crazy mom...

And add a little stomach virus and allergy hell for me, and he is in BIG AZZ trouble!

Re: Can I please vent about DH and Mothers Day??

My friend and I joke that it's the "Y" chromosome that makes them do all these stupid, selfish things. Try not to let it ruin your day. It sounds like he's always been like that so unfortunately, he most likely won't change. At least until your kids are old enough to ask him what they're doing for you for Mother's Day!!!

Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Can I please vent about DH and Mothers Day??

I don't buy the "men are men" stuff..i would not argue, I wouldn't do anything. I would make plans for me and my children to do something nice for the day and I would not cook. I would not ask him to join us. I would also not do anything for him for weeks...not one piece of laundry, not one meal..nothing. And then I would let him know that I can also be selfish. On Father's Day I would let him know that I was planning on getting my nails done in the morning and he has the kids all day.
I am sorry he is doing this to you. It is really, truly unfair and you deserve better treatement. You do A LOT and should be honored for it on Mother's Day.

Now that is a great idea!!

Not that I can complain, DH was wonderful for Mother's Day...but for those whose DH's weren't, I LOVE Michele's idea!

I don't know you, but are you married? My dh would not put up with that attitude as I would not either. You need to talk about things not treat the other person like a child.

Re: Can I please vent about DH and Mothers Day??

Yes. I am married. My husband and I don't treat each other like that because we have respect for one other. But if he were to be so very mean to me and disrespect me so badly I would just not continue to do things like laundry for him. I do those things, not because I am expected to do them, but because I want to. We are a partnership. We do for each other. I would just help him to see that what I do each day does comand some respect and honoring.

If this is a year, after year thing and the mom's have discussed this over and over, at some point I would just "show" over "talk".
