POLL: How much/month do you pay for mortgage + taxes (and common charges, if applicable)?
We have a number in our heads as to what our max would comfortably be but I was just curious as to the average.

We are WAY less than $1800 but I have to qualify that buy saying DH bought our house in 1998 when it was valued at $150K and he put down $30K. He had to refinance to by his ex-wife out of her share of the house but they agreed on a price that represented the value when she moved out (as opposed to when the divorce was final) which is still way lower than it's current appraisal at $475K.
When I met him his mortgage payment was $800 .
We are looking for a bigger house and want to put down all of the equity from this house plus more. We would be comfortable with a $2500. monthly payment. Our mortgage broker says it's do-able for our situation.
UPDATE 10/06: We sold our previous home and bought a new one. We put 60% of the purchase price down (equity plus investments from the sale) and we have a 30 year mortage on the remainder but are paying extra principle each month so we pay it off in 15 years. We'd like to avoid paying a mortage and TWO college tuitions at the same time Our current payment is $3100. a month including taxes.

we pay $3800+ - but we have some rental income from some other properties that helps pay for the house.

$1650 for mortgage and taxes, but keep in mind, I live right outside Philadelphia, where the houses are still fairly affordable...

We just re-financed and are now paying $1600 ea. month for mortgage, taxes & ins. We have a small houe in eastern Suffolk- we also bought the house from a forclosure.

I'm right up there too. We missed the deadline for STAR, so our taxes *should* decrease after October, but that is about where we are now.

$2141 a month
We do the biweekly automatic withdrawals which amounts to a couple "extra" payments a year, which has actually given us a lot more equity in the house.
If you can afford it, I recommend it!

We pay $1,040/month for our mortgage, taxes and home insurance. We bought my parents house in 1996 and we had a downpayment of about 37%.

we pay $1500 for mortgage.
DH bought the house back in 1998. We refinance to a 15 year mortgage, so it went up a little, plus the taxes keep going.

We pay about $2200 a month. We just bought in March but we also moved north of the city, to Putnam county. But I have a feeling we won't get the STAR exemption again, unfortunately. Our taxes now are $4800.

We pay about $1960 for mortgage/taxes...that includes paying bi-weekly and also additional money towards principle only. Helps with gaining equity quickly.

Taxes are a little of $1200 per month, mortgage is a little more than $2400 per month. Both payments together used to be about $4400 but we have paid down a huge amount of the mortgage over the past 6 months, so that has helped bring it down. We also pay an extra $1000 towards the principle per month
