Our Anniversary Trip is Off!
We were not due to go to the resort in Mexico until next Monday, but it's closed!!! They don't know when they are going to reopen. I am so so upset. We have been planning this trip for 5 months. We are trying to work with the travel agent to find somewhere else to go this weekend. We'd like an all-inclusive, but something higher class (if that exists) than Sandals, for example.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I guess so - all the resorts in that area are closed, as far as I know.

Are you able to get a refund?
The resort is going to refund 100%. The travel agent is going to fight for the airfare. We are both frequent flier members and last year, when we flew to Hawaii on the same airline for our honeymoon, DH, who is a paramedic, jumped in when there was a medical emergency on board - so they owe us!!

I would suggest you check out a cruise. Last minute you could probably get a fabulous deal - last minute deals are really cheap.
The great thing about the cruise is usually it sails even if there is a hurricane only it will sail to islands not affected if you itinerary is in the path of the storm.
check out bestprice cruises there are many other sites - but there are some amazing last minute deals - and then you don't have to stress if it is in the way of the hurricane

i have an extra 'Half' bedroom over in Carle Place if you're interested... you'd have to share it with some stuffed animals and a computer desk.. BUT the view from the North Wing, overlooking the LIRR tracks, is simply to Die for

Lots of lovely resorts on St. Lucia. There are three Sandals, but there are others that might be a little higher end. Tripadvisor.com is a great site.

I am so sorry about your trip!
I just got back from an anniversary trip to Jamaica. We were there for 7 nights and it ended up being 11. We go caught in hurricane Dennis. It was very scary experience a hurricane from that point of view. We go notice the night of the hurricane that our flight was cancelled and the next one back to NY wasn't until Tuesday. So the resort cut us a deal of $200 a night.  The airline was much less accommodating Instead of having a 3.5 hour flight to NY we had a 2.5 to Atlanta with a 4 hour layover (which turned into 5) and another 2.5 hour flight to NY. We did not get back to NY until 2 am!
I am sorry you are so bummed but its better then getting there and having bad weather.
