Edited to say: I am asking because my boss asked me what I would like, but he said we will use disability - so I don't know why he would ask what I would like than.

Am I being naive thinking they "owe" me something? I have been with them for 13 years! Never took a lunch break - they don't offer it, even after asking, so I grinned and bear it, but shouldn't I get something besides $170.00 a week (disability) I feel cheated, I do above and beyond for them EVERYDAY !!!!

should I let it go or persue it?

I have my own business...so I get no maternity leave or disability. I am working hard these next 3 months to save for the time I won't be able to work. DH is not working and is going to be a SAHD.

I don't even have disability?

My company used to match your 3 weeks paid maternity leave if you have the sick/vacation time to use, now they just give you 3 weeks. So total I'll have almost 7 weeks paid maternity. With Caiden I only had off 6 weeks and didn't get paid for anything.

Nothing -- just FMLA. My company used to give us an extra month (unpaid, of course) off. But they changed that policy in May. So I'm getting 12 weeks unpaid, that's all. I joke that my husband has better maternity benefits than I do -- his company gives him one week paid paternity leave -- my company doesn't give any paid leave. BTW, his company gives 8 weeks paid maternity and new mothers can come back part-time for their first month back. I'm super jealous!

ETA: My DH's company has decent maternity benefits...3 months paid maternity. Too bad he can't take advantage of them.

I have 8-10 weeks paid maternity leave and then the other weeks are FMLA leave.

I get the 12 weeks off for FLMA, but only 6 weeks paid at 100% (8 weeks for C-section) - I can supplement with up to 2 weeks vacation. So I'll hopefully get paid for 8 weeks (6 weeks + 2 weeks vacation) and take 4 weeks unpaid.

I signed up for AFLAC last year. I saw the commercials but never really understood what it was. A woman came into work and explained it for us. I took out short-term disability insurance knowing I would be having a baby sometime soon. I will be getting $800 per month in addition to disability (I think I pay like $7 a week for it). I have to wait 2 weeks before it kicks in, but will surely help in the end. You have to be enrolled in the plan more than 10 months to get the pregnancy benefit (logical, so that you don't sign up and immediately draw on the insurance).
There is no way I can afford my bills on anything less than 2 full salaries. I also have some vacation time banked, but can't use it in conjuction with disability (double-dipping).
I still have a lot to question and figure out, but wanted to mention it to anyone who this might help.

You don't get paid for the 1st week of disabilty so my boss gave me the $$ in cash.............other than that nadda........

I get 8 weeks paid (6 weeks for vaginal, 8 for c-section) and then another 4 weeks i can take either vacation days or take it unpaid. I also will get paid sick time for any time i go out prior to having the baby if my doctor deems it necessary.

they told me to use 1st week "my sick time" 6 weeks disability (170 a week...ugghh) then use my vacation/personal.

My company is giving me 3 mo. maternity leave with full pay. We (DH &I) are also relocating to North Carolina because we are opening a branch there but they arent compensating for that. I guess I can't complain though...it's better than disability.

Nothing at all from my company. I know how you feel. After 16 years, I kind of thought that I wouldn't have to take a 1/2 vacation day when I leave a couple hours early.

I paid each month for disability insurance out of pocket since they don't give you it here in Cali. So I have to use all my accumulated sick days(I have about 30) and then the disability kicks in for the remainder of the six weeks. Obviously, I will use sick days this pregnancy but it will help in the next one since I won't have so many days accumulated.

I have no idea if that makes sense- I get six weeks paid if vaginal, 8 wks c-section but I paid for it either way; either in my sick days or my paid disability.

Tell them this is what I get....

6 weeks at 90% pay, a further 20 weeks at $180 per week, then I have the option to stay off work for another 6 months with guarantee that my company will hold my job or a similar job at the same rate of pay for my return after that year is up. Also, while I am off for my year I accrue holiday (which is 25 weeks) and a further 8 or so days for bank holidays, which I can take as either paid or extra holidays next year.

So tell your boss that you want something along these lines, like we have in the UK.

Try your best to ask for at least 50% of your pay for the leave...add the $170 to that. If he is asking, then give an answer

A boss who does NOT give lunch breaks will most likely not give you a totally sweet deal and if you overask he may not give you anything. JMO, but i would use a lot of caution and ask for a good deal, but the deal above is AMAZING and I don't know anyone who is getting even close to that.

I will get 4 weeks at 100%, then 8 weeks at 80%, and I work part time from home.

Here's some interesting statistics:

In India, new mothers get 12 weeks paid maternity leave. In Germany, 14 weeks. Austria, Netherlands, Spain, and Poland all give 16 weeks paid leave. France gives anywhere from 16-26 weeks paid leave. All of those countries pay mothers at 100% of their wages. Other countries, including Belgium, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Japan, and Sweden, among others, all pay mothers at percentages of their wages. Italy pays 80% of wages for 5 whole months.

The US? Only 17% of companies give any pay for maternity leave. It's ridiculous.
