A year ago today...
My life changed.
What had begun as a surprise in January of 2005 culminated into the birth of Isabella Grace on this day, September 8th. The love of my life.
If I only knew what I was in for. Unfailing love and patience (patience was not previously a strength ) and a new discovery every day through the eyes of a newborn and now ONE YEAR OLD. She has taught me to love unconditionally...and fiercely.
Before Bella I was a little lazy. Loved my sleep-in Sat/Sun and just laying on the couch when I was in "one of those moods" Work was beyond important and I loved racking up my miles with travel and going to all sorts of venues and interviewing all sorts of different artists. Now I am up at 6:30 am almost every single day and I haven't been on a plane since we went to visit the ILs back in January. And at 4 pm, I am looking at any excuse to hop on a train to get home to my Bella.
She was an amazing newborn, sleeping through MUCH of the first four weeks and the through the night at 3 months. Bella found her smile early and hasn't stopped. She greets me every morning with a mama and jumping like I am the best thing she has ever seen.
I have had my share of second-guessing this year along with DH, thinking I was screwing her up, but I have an amazing daughter that just goes with the flow.
I didn't and don't have a mother to show me the way, how to weave through the uncertainty of those first few weeks and beyond. And although a son would have sent me just as far over the moon, I believe that Bella was sent to me for a reason. She showed me what a mother/daughter relationship truly is.
Her patience while I figured things out and her adoration at just the fact that I am MOM, well I cannot even explain the joy, overwhelming, heart exploding love that it brings me. How lucky I am to finally experience this. My lack of a mother has only strengthened my bond with Isabella, because it's her and I against the world...no one else can come between us and I cannot imagine one second in my life without her...

I'm sitting here at my desk crying like a baby. That was so beautiful and so true! It's amazing how such a little person can have the greatest impact on your entire life.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with tears in her eyes reading this post. Happy Birthday to a beautiful little girl and to her wonderful Mom. I know it's unbelievable to picture, but it gets even better.

Your daughter is beautiful as is the sentiment....Happy 1st Bday.
I have a mom (and a good one at that) but I feel the same passionate way about my 6 month old daughter....I LOVE her so much - I can't believe how powerful it is sometimes!
