Is this article supposed to help her decision? An article from an anti c-section website that talks about midwife "tricks" like if a woman wears a size 5 shoe she'll be capable of delivering a large baby? Is that the same trick as a man having a large shoe size having a big you know what? It makes about as much sense.
Having a c-section is not wrong and not every woman who is having one is being forced. Not everyone is as mis-informed as you assume them to be. Some consider "major" surgery to be being put completely under and having heart or brain surgery, not being awake and numb and bring a beautiful life into this world SAFELY. From what I've read here, maybe you feel it's your duty to make sure that everyone knows what you went through, and that is respectable, but I really think you have to learn how to do it in a way that doesn't make a woman feel like she is doing the wrong thing all the time and that she shouldn't trust her doctors. Especially when you are dealing with women who are very pregnant and very emotional to begin with.

Actually ICAN IS NOT ANTI- C/S...c/s saves lives every day!! It is against misinformation and lies and forced c/s..very different.
Again, if you choice a c/s then I believe 110% in that...it is a choice. We should all have the choice. But not all women are given that choice and that is where my problems are. But never kid yourself, a c/s is considered major surgery. Surgery does not always = bad. But it is majory surgery never the less.

IMO I don't think Michele ever intends to pursuade someone one way or the other she only wants to make sure that each woman is aware that she has choices in her birth.
I personally cannot stand doctors and I was so happy to find midwives that I trusted. Had I used and OB I would have been induced at 37 weeks due to high BP and probably ended up with a c section. Instead my midwives respected my wishes, monitored me carefully and I was able to have the natural drug free birth that I had always dreamed of.
As for midwife "tricks" they do work and I have NO idea why doctors are so determined to have women give birth laying on their backs. It is the most unnatural and stupidest position to give birth in...IMO.
My daughters shoulder was a little bit stuck and my midwife had me get on my hands and knees which is proven to help rotate a baby and sure enough my daughter came out with ease. A physician more than likely would never suggest that and who knows what trauma my daughter and I would have endured.
I really feel that as women we have learned to have little faith in what our bodies can do naturally and it has become common place to do whatever our doctor tells us we should do because they always use "the health of your baby tactic" and I feel that it used to fulfill their agenda. They make a lot more money on a c section than a drug free, vaginal birth.
Again this is all my opinon and it is not to meant to make anyone feel less than for having a c section. I don't believe that at all. I was born via c section and it was life saving surgery for my mother so I am grateful that this option is available. I just agree with Michele that everyone should make sure they are given all the facts and make an informed decision so that you never feel like you were made to do something you didn't really want to do.

c-section IS A MAJOR surgery, dont let the fact your not complelty under dissuade that. They move your freaking organs around if need be, you think thats OK if its not really needed?
The truth is DRs prefer C-sections because they can control it more, but we have babies to bring life into this world, not to jeapordize it because the Dr feels more comfortable.
If I were in the original posters shows, I would have asked why we couldnt TRY natural first and then see?
Many women hate the fact they had to have c-sections. # of my closest freinds get so jealous when anyone we know delivers naturally because they feel robbed of the experience.
Its not natural and if it can be avoided, it should. C-sections are more dangerous, yet easier the natural birth. I thin its foolish to carry a baby for 9 months and then take the easy way out....just my opinion on un-needed C's...
of course there are hundreds of times when they are truly needed, but it shuld be only when a baby is in distress or a mom had a pelvic bone malformation....

just wanted to say that Im a very small person- only 111 lbs and very small frame and hips and I delevered a 9lbs 10 oz chunker naturally with out even tearing-- so it is not true that small women cannot birth large babies- Im living proof and it was not a hard labor either. I did however have a midwife, there was never any discussion of c-section but I didnt know how big the baby was my last sono was at 20 weeks or something.

I think the debates also start because people generally say "My doctor says I have to have a c section" which "have to have" isn't always the case. Yes there are medical reasons but there are also a lot done for the convenience or preference of the doctor. (IMO).

Seriously! Why does this have to be YET ANOTHER debate on c-sections? She posted about having her baby in a few days - why the thread has to veer away from wishing her well and offering support is beyond my understanding. It's one thing to direct your comments to the Mom-to-be but many of the replies are just a debate. It's rude IMO. I think it would be more appropraite to start a new thread if you really want to debate.

You know what, I'm really sorry for commenting on your Dr.'s decision to do a c-section... everyone is right - all that was necessary was a BIG FAT CONGRATULATIONS!!! Can't wait to see you and your little one on the parenting board!

Of course I want you and your baby to be healthy, safe and for you to enjoy your journey to motherhood. That is always the most important thing in the World.
I don't really think giving information is a debate when someone expresses that they are unprepared for a certain outcome. I know I wish I had someone who would have done that for me. And letting someone know that they are not alone if they are feeling badly or nervous or unsure. Again, I wish I had someone to do that for me.
I hope you will read that I posted some tips on ways to incorporate more personal touches to a c/s such as the music or bfing in the OR or keeping the baby with you. If you do need recovery support please know that many of us are here.
(another hint: bring your own pillow and use it between your incision area and the seat belt when you drive home...boy did that save me a lot of pain!!!)

I had a c-section because my daughter was measuring large (measured 10-3 and was 9-10) and it was actually a pretty good experience for me. I wish you the best of luck and let us know how it goes!!
