Wonder what it can be? UPDATE!
Julia woke up at 4:30am with a temp 99.5 she was very warm, so I cooled her down with a wash cloth and gave her tylenol. She was fine for the rest of the night, and woke up again at 9am with a temp of 99.0 still high but she is so out of it and just wants me to hold her. I feel so bad I don't know what it can be?? She doesn't have any other symptoms besides a slight fever. Any ideas of what she could have? Its the first time she has a fever, I'm soooo nervous! I have been giving her water with a little juice in a sippy and shes taking that, and I just BF her too. TIA!
Well we just came back from the Dr's, there is a tooth coming in, but she also has a slight ear infection, I cant believe it! So shes on antibiotics and I just feel so bad for her, shes so out of it my poor baby.  I feel terrible. How long do ear infections usually last? She wasn't even around anyone that was sick.

How old is she? and is that temp. rectal or basal? armpit? Could she be teething?

It sounds like one of two possible (or maybe three) ailments. My first inclination is to think teething - does she have any teeth yet? The week before Alex's first tooth broke out she was VERY cranky, had a slight temperature and was very clingy. The day before it broke through they called me from daycare saying she wasn't herself, was sleepy and super clingy. Other than that, she may have the beginnings of coxsackie, which is a virus common during the summer, but that usually is accompanied with high fever, over 103 degrees. The last, possibly an ear infection? My pediatrician's rule of thumb is that we should always bring her in if she's not herself, so maybe you should put a call into the pediatrician's office?

I just took her temp again it was 101.2 I'm so nervous, I'm going to make an apt with her Dr now just to make sure she is ok, and what it can be. Thanks for the info Beth!

I hope so too. I would be careful with those ear thermo scans, they are not always 100% accurate.

I'm taking Julia over to the Dr now, he said he wants to check her out cause 101.4 is a little high for teething, maybe something else? I hope its not! Say a prayer its just from teething!

Rectal is the most accurate temps, my friend learned this from the nurses & NICU in the hospital, the ear ones are not always correct.

I just went through this with Jake this week - his first fever, and he cut two teeth. Except his temp hit 104 (rectal!!!)  You can imagine how FREAKED I was.
Hang in there, I hope she gets over this very quickly.

Same thing happened to Bella...she should start feeling better after a day or two on the antibiotics...don't stress if she doesn't really want to eat or drink...she may just want to sleep...
