Do You Think People Lie About Their Opinions On Chat Forums?
I wonder whether and how much people lie on chat forums. I'm not talking about information about themselves. I mean whether someone posts something about an idea or a pic and asks for opinions. Do you think people say they like something when they really don't? Is it to be accepted into a clique or to follow what everyone else thinks? Is it just to be polite? If someone posts pics or ideas (especially on LIW) and I don't like it, I'll just read the post and won't comment. I know everyone has different taste, but I wonder if some people really believe what they write.

I for one always post my opinion...if I respond (sometimes, like you, I ignore) I am honest. Even if it's soemthing I don't like.
However, yes, there is definitely a "pack mentality" aspect that I despise. People lacking self assestment needing others to validate them...

I think some people will say they like something they don't to be polite or to up their post counts. I think some people will take an opposing view just to play devils advocate.

i think people aren't honest sometimes for fear of being flamed or hurting someone's feelings. if asked, "what is your opinion?" i ALWAYS respond w/ an honest answer. IMO, there is no point in being dishonest. if i feel that my honest opinion might upset someone, then i don't respond.

I don't, if I dislike something, I try to be tactful, or just don't say anything. Since there is a degree of anonymity on the site, I would think people would be honest, but it seems like it sometimes works the opposite way.
Sometimes people just like to stir things up too.

me too. I won't go outta my way to be mean & upset someone. But if they get all upset over nothing then it's not my fault.

I think a lot of people do lie, or keep quiet when they disagree with the majority opinion. Or they'll FM the person their "real" opinion, rather than posting it and risking getting flamed.

I don't answer a post if I don't have an opinion one way or another on most things, ie what color to paint Jes's nails or which shoes someone should buy.
I guess it maybe because I don't feel the need to agree with someone for the sake of being included or excluded, it never occurred to me that other people would.
When I think of people lying on chat forums, I think of it terms of the dating sites ("I look like Patrick Demsey" type of thing.) or the slime searching for teens.

Yes, I think lots of people lie. If I really dont like something or go against the majority, I don't say anything at all. Also, if I know that it will hurt someone's feelings, then I ignore the post.

And that happens WAY too often. Some people pick apart your post word for word to try and find something that will offend someone, even if it's not them. 
How many times did we read "I think that you post could be offensive to some people." LOL.

If I don't like whatever they post and ask opinions on, I tend to just not answer. Seems like most people really don't want to hear that you don't like it anyway. But it's more just to steer clear of any drama than to try to fit in or whatever.

I don't lie, I don't see the point. If someone posts something and it bugs me, it's easier to keep quiet. It's only a chat board. Besides, a lot of the time people don't want advice, they want to be validated.
