I think if overall you are a rude/ mean person it reflects how you feel about yourself. What do you think?

insecure? i don't think so...
i think some people are just rude/mean because that's their persona. they don't know anything else.
i DO think that mean-spirited people are simply MISERABLE in their own lives. but that's okay, because God don't like ugly!

rudeness is also in the eye of the beholder..kinda subjective
So i think ultimately...the insecure one is the other person ...not the so called "rude" one

IMO...
Rude people think they are the most important people in the world since they lack manners and consideration of other people.
Mean people may be insecure or just like making others feel bad.

I don't think rude people are insecure. I work with a girl who is so rude - not mean at all but every time I've ever had an interaction with her she's rude, and it's not just to me - a lot of people feel this way. She's not at all insecure. I think she's rude because she's a little too impressed with herself and thinks she's superior.
I think mean people are miserable or hurting inside, and that causes them to be mean to others.

Some really diffent perspectives, very interesting, I find I feel bad for mean people because they are so miserable, what a waste of time for them. Too many mean people in this world, I think it's important to "check yourself" every once in a while, if you're being rude or mean what does that say about yourself? And what are people saying about you as a result.

There is a big difference between people who are rude and mean, and people who are straight forward. As most people on this board know, I am pretty "to the point", and I do not consider myself insecure at all. I am actually quite confident, and happy with who I am. Of course, there are things I would like to change about myself, but they do not effect they way I see myself as a person.

I totally agree with this! I think when people are mean to someone, they are trying to knock them down a notch, so that they look/feel better. To me that definitely equals insecurity!

WOW, my SIL matches both descriptions. Evil biotch!!!
ETS- She's one of those people who comes from money, so she believes that makes her better than everyone else. She speaks down to everyone and intentionally tries to make people small. The fact of the matter is, she's unhappy in her life and with herself. For all of the "stuff" she has, she's certainly lacking something much more important and has some major jealousy issues.
