I can't stand it when I see idiots bring their tiny dogs and cats on the subway and in the passenger cabins of planes. It's extremely inconsiderate and potentially very dangerous to people with allergies.

sorry, i'm going to have to disagree with you there...(and i AM an allergy sufferer).....
the airlines allow for small pets in passenger cabins - and charge enough damn $$$ for them too....as long as they're in the proper carry-on, i see nothing wrong with it.

I agree w/ mrserod. If the pets allowed, then its their right. A person with allergies should know that pets might possibly be.Such as they should know by signs on the store door if dogs are allowed in certai stores..

If they're not allowed in certain stores, and an owner still being a pet in, then i feel bad for the allergic person bc he had no way of knowing it was going to be there.

Basically, you're saying that people with pet allergies shouldn't travel on airplanes.

I couldn't disagree more.

People first, pets second.

i don't believe that's what she was saying at all. i think she just means that when travelling, one should expect the possiblity that another traveler may very well be accompanied by their small pet. not that people with allergies shouldn't travel on airplanes!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

just realized i was quoted...sorry for delay

No I wasnt saing pets are before humans. I was just saying that an allergic person should already anticipate that there might be a pet onboard...
Why deem the petowner inappropriate if its legal??

it is not appropriate AT ALL
not even on an airplane..pple come b4 pets, if someone has alergies they should not have to suffer b/c ur cat or dog is secured properly...pple could die b/c of their allergies...

so if mrs. miller is flying down to florida for the winter, where is she supposed to put fluffy?? in the overhead compartment? or in the luggage compartment where the temp drops to below freezing? Chat Icon
and trust me, i hear what you're saying - b/c i'm allergic to cats - but only if i come in close contact with one or am around the area where all of its dander has collected, etc....
so if fluffy is secured properly underneath the seat in front of mrs miller - i don't see anything wrong with it.

I see people bring thier dogs with them to places more and more --- teenage girls walking around with them in malls, women bringing them to the grocery store -- and I just don't understand it. I understand that for many people their pets are part of their family -- but I don't understand the need to bring them everywhere with you.

I was at the nail salon once and this 45 year old woman (dressed like a 12 year old) had her dog in her purse. I wanted to smack her for being a tool.

Chat Icon That is just wrong!

Woah..Idiots is kinda harsh IMO. Some people use the subway to TRAVEL so they need to bring pets on to get home from places ....And a lot of small dogs are hypoallergenic to begin with.

I dont agree with brining dogs into stores and definatly not BRU....but the subway..thats different IMO.

As far as the whole airplane thing -- DH is VERY allergic to cats and if he was in a plane and someone a few seats away had a cat in a carrier -- he most likely would have a reaction. He can't even walk into a house where there are cats. His reaction is SEVERE --- and while I really don't know where I stand on the whole airplane thing -- because I can understand Mrs.Miller taking her pet down with her to Fl for the winter -- I do think that some people with severe allergies could have bad reactins to that and I don't know how fair that would be to them either.

if its that serious, you should always tell the airline carrier so they would sit you away from petowners...
I would assume they would group the petowners in one part of the planeChat Icon

I think it's inapporpriate. My mom does it sometimes...the dog enver leaves my mom's arms when she does it, it's usually if it's a quick run in... but I still hate it. I don't think pets belong in stores. Once I saw a couple in the mall with a dachsund running free, no leash...IN the mall.

I have a Yorkie and he is hypoallergenic and he is going with me on planes and subways and I don't think I'm an idiot for doing so. He doesn't bother anyone and he can't cause an allergic reaction, so what's the big deal??

Re: Poll-Is it appropriate to "tote" dogs into stores??

Quite honestly, I don't really care if people tote their dogs around, as long as it's not in a food store and not in let's say BRU. BRU, to me, is wrong because little kids and babies frequent there, and they are so little and sensitive and you never know what their reaction to animal dander could be.

But again, I will ask what I asked on the other thread...WHY? Why tote your animal everywhere? I guess I just don't get the concept of it.

As far as airplanes go, it's just tough. I mean where are people supposed to bring pets if they have to transport them? But also its a confined space with no fresh air, so it can be really miserable. It's a good point. Bring extra antihistaines and an epipen if needed on airplanes.

I just hope people ONLY trasnport pets when needed.

WHY?...i am assuming that they want to have their dog with them..

separation anxiety issues on the dogs behalf

going out tooo long and didn't want to leave the dog by itself for that many hours

I don't know. I don't have a dog, so I guess I can't understand. I can see if you're going to be out for a really long time, but I just don't get toting an animal everywhere you go. I mean, what do people with big dogs do? I'm sure they have separation anxiety, too?
