Our Progress...w/pictures - Update 3/1/06
added pictures throughout my post so you can see the room by room progress! Updated 3/1/06 - the kitchen floor and den pictures
original post on 1/27/06, day after we closed
We closed on 1/26/06, but the seller had not even packed, so we got the keys on 2/1.
We paid $320K for the house in a very nice section of N. Babylon (right by phelps lane). The house in great condition goes for $400-415K. It needs a new roof (we have three leaks), bathroom, kitchen and electrical upgrade. Eventually new siding too.
We are doing all the work ourselves, except roof and electrician.
If the sellers had even painted or cleaned, they could have gotten so much more for the house. The property and neighborhood is great. You should have seen the black dirt coming off the cabinets. We steam cleaning everything first, then scrubbed and then painted!

Roofer comes on Friday to put on new roof and electrician comes Monday to upgrade to 200 amp and fix other things.
We started working this weekend and this is how far we've come.....

This is the bucket in our attic above the leaks pictured above. Even though the seller swore he fixed it himself, empty the bucket and said his roof was not leaking....

starting to work on the kitchen...
We are gutting the kitchen in the fall after we are married. For now it just has to be clean.
kitchen with a coat of paint and scrubbing...
updated 3/1 - We have a kitchen floor! Peel & Press tile - Home Depot $60 total cost! We will be redoing the kitchen within the year, so we didn't want to spend tons of money.

on to the bathroom....
Oh and I forgot to mention all of our walls are plaster not Sheetrock! It is much more expensive and harder to repair. But better for heat and noise.
These people were pigs! They lived with the bathroom like this for months. We saw the house in early Sept and it looked like this. She was 8 months prego and had a 2 year old!

We will just repaint this room...
updated 3/1 painted and ready to move in!
The living room...we need to paint and refinish wood floors... All the stuff is the sellers junk!
office freshly painted....we are going to do a red sox/yankee theme in here. But just painted it clean so we could move in...
Master Bedroom. We took the closet from the spare and opened in the master so we have 2 closets. We closed the back of the closet off.

Kathleen, you and Nick sure are going fast with the renovations... Looks great.. Big difference the dirty kitchen to the freshly very cleaned up kitchen...
What roofer did you decide to go with?

We have cream colored couches to go in this room....

We ripped up the fireplace tiling and found 3 layers of tile/cement/marble.
fixed and all ready for grout

den was painted in Ben Moore - Shabby Chic
curtain scarfs - Marburn in Farmingdale. I got 4 scarfs and the holders for $80.00. GREAT Deals there...there is one in smithtown too!
