What with more money for gas if you use credit
Ive seen it all over lately. Today on my way home I need to stop for gas. I saw a gas station that said 2.79 Not great but I needed gas so I stopped. Started to fill up and then saw the sign at the pump said 2.89 and next to it it said charge.. Above it said Cash 2.79.
.10 cents is .10 cents! Even if the gas station are getting charged for people to use credit cards (that i doubt) it cant be that much.
Needless to say since I was already pumping I only put 6.00 in the car

I thought most gas stations did away with the credit card fee?
I haven't seen a gas station that charged extra for credit in YEARS.

thats so irritating...
I was so mad We passed a gas station the other day and my DH pointed it out. If you arent paying attention (like me today) you wouldn't notice since it doesnt say it on the big sign

Thats ridiculous.
I gotta put gas in the car probably Wednesday night and I dread it. I just put 42 dollars in the car on Saturday.

I actually have NEVER seen a gas station charge for credit card.. Just recently. And it was two gas stations.

I never take what the huge sign says for granted. I always look at what the price says on the pump itself.
This helps me not to accidently pump gas from a "full service" pump that charges 30 cents more a gallon!

This helps me not to accidently pump gas from a "full service" pump that charges 30 cents more a gallon!
I only goto self service gas stations. And even then I pull in and make sure it says "self" and not "full"
I always look at the sign to see the price before pulling in. I would think thats some kinda fasle advertising law or something.

Yup...I have seen it a few times. If you look at the big sign it usually says Cash above the prices. Nice way to price gouge!

I know I think I went to the same gas station...lol. Sign said $2.79 and then more for credit. I had to do a double take. Is that even legal?

This is so funny that you posted this, because the same exact thing happened to me today and for the same exact prices. I saw 2.79 and figured it wasn't too bad a price, so I stopped, started pumping then noticed a sign 2.79 cash, 2.89 credit. I was SO mad!

Yup, I noticed the big sign said Cash AFTER I wasted my money. From now on, I'm going to look out for that. Because of the high prices, people tend to pay by credit now instead of cash and they're taking advantage of it....sneaky

I was at a gas station and didnt notice until I spent $40 and it was a 15 cents difference

One of the great things about living in NJ...it's against the law to pump your own gas!! Everything is full serve...no extra charge

Merchants do get charged by the credit card processing companies for each transaction. I don't think they are supposed to charge more when credit cards are used though.

I know it is illegal for a gas station to have one price on the big sign and a different one at the pump. Since technically they are offering the same price (if you use cash) I am not sure if that is considered illegal.
However- Definitely unfair! I haven't paid for gas with cash in over two years!

they get charged for you using the card so it really makes sense they pass it on to you trying to keep the gas prices down i guess
