I actually said something about this to my mom and then said I should bite my tongue, I haven't my baby. What if it is ugly when it comes out?

Well YOU won't think it is ugly and no one will tell you so don't worry about itChat Icon

Re: Ugly babies-(LIF-ers NOT INCLUDED)

Don't the parents of ugly babies always think their babies are the cutest...or maybe that is what they say to over compensate.

I never know what to say...

BTW...I cannot look at this thread anymore...those pics are going to give me nightmaresChat Icon Chat Icon

But we all have a gawky time in life. I was gawky around 10 or 11. By Jr High, I had straightened out and looked normal again.

I compliment the outfit. Or say"Awww he/she looks like you/their daddy."

Some ugly babies do get cute. My friends daughter was scary as a baby. But, she got cuter as she got older.

Totally agree with Tracy. I've seen some babies that I've had some concern for, but as they grow into their faces, they get cuter Chat Icon

I also just gush and go along with it. My mothers neighbore has a little girl who was actually beatiful but when my mom would gush over her the mothe would actually say "yeah she's cute" but not in a happy gushing way, like she is just going alongwith my mom. Needless to say in 4 years I have only seen the girl twice because she is always in the hosue.

Very true- my mom was so upset when my brother was born- she said he looked like a plucked chicken. And in looking at pics, he wasn't cute at all those first few months. But he did change and became an adorable toddler and a good looking adult.

It is hard to gush over an ugly one though.. but all babies are cute. I mean, they're little teeny people, that's cute! You just say, wow-- he's got such incredible cheeks, or look at those lips... Hopefully, they'll grow into their looks Chat Icon

exactly. compliment on the hair, outfit, smile, eyes etc.....

Re: Ugly babies-(LIF-ers NOT INCLUDED)

I am actually kind of shocked that more people were outraged on another thread about an ugly dog contest than people are here about an ugly baby contest. I think an ugly baby contest is horrible and I agree with Stefanie - they are all someone's baby. I am not slamming Hollie for posting it, I just thought more people would react negatively to it Chat Icon

In answer to the original question, I always gush. The parent usually is so proud of their baby, no matter what they look like. The world is going to be cruel enough to that child, and it is not going to start with me. JMO.

I agree 100%.

No matter what the baby looks like he or she is someone's child.

Very sad that more people would be outraged over an ugly dog contest but not at ugly baby contestChat Icon

We will see if they change their tune once they have children.

I don't gush. I can't. I find something I think it cute about the baby (because they're is always somthing) & comment on that. "Look at those eyelashes!" "What a great smile!" "What beautiful skin!"

I was never one to think every baby was cute. To be perfectly honest, when I first saw Maddie, I was disappointed. She was very swollen, had angel kisses (red marks on her eyes), what looked like freckles all over.

I remember saying to the doctor the next day, "Is her nose always going to look like that? What about those marks over her eyes, will they always be there?" The nurse explained the "freckles" were essentially road rash from being born so quickly & would fade. Eventually the swelling went down, everything faded & she cutened up. My neice was the same way -not a cute baby. She's adorable now.

eta. Kelly - it's not just you. Bella is adorable.
