Lets talk about Massapequa

I'm thinking of expanding my search for a house into a new area because I haven't been very successful in the areas I have been looking. My realtor has suggested Massapequa but I'm really not familiar with the area. I did research the Massapequa and Plainedge school districts and they seem to be good......I would love some feedback on specific areas in massapegua that are better than others and any other info you may have on the schools.....TIA

Lvoe massapequa. Love the whole Park section.....

Massapequa is so big, they have massapequa, plainedge and farmingdale schools.

What do you want to know

You really cant go wrong with any part of massapequa....

I don't know much about exact areas in Massapequa, but I used to have a friend that lived there and she loved it. Overall, I have heard nothing but great things about it. good luck to you!

I lived in North Massapequa (I was off of Broadway about 3 blocks south of the Southern State Parkway) It was a great neighborhood. I think the house was in the Plainedge school district and from what I had heard its a good district.

Im not sure if you need the LIRR but the train station was only about a 3 min drive and there was plenty pf parking.

East Massapequa is closer to Amityville and I "think" they go to Amityville schools. Amityville School district is not rated as high as the Massapequa one.

I have a friend who lives in "Pequa" and it's a wonderful area. There really aren't any bad areas, especially if you are looking at any school district besides Amityville. As another poster said, you are no more than ten minutes from the train, which is great if you have to commute.

I grew up in Massapequa and it really is a great area. As long as you stay within Massapequa and Plainedge districts you should be good. Try and stay away from any place described as East Massapequa - that part of Massapequa is near Sunrise Mall and tends to be a little run down. Let me know if you have any questions.

Love Massapequa. It's a very desireable area. I wouldn't look in the Amityville school district though. It doesn't have good stats.

I grew up in Massapequa...it's a good area. Commuted from there into the city for a couple months right after college...the train station is very accessible and there is a ton of parking. I am a product of the school system, so I have to say it's pretty good .
As other posters have mentioned, I would just stay away from "east" Massapequa....other than that, you should be fine!

I grew up in Massapequa and went to public school there- it's a nice town and the schools were excellent- my only complaint is that they town is way too "white"- or at least it was when I was living there- no African Americans in the school, not 1. Maybe a handful of Asian, Hispanic Americans, etc.. mostly Italian or Jewish- and while some people look for that I guess (seeming that no one wants to send their kids to Amityville schools which are mostly non-white) I don't think it's realistic to shelter kids in that way- they don't learn anything about diversity and getting along with different types of people. That is why the "non white" areas of massapequa are districted out of the school and go other places- you can live across the street for the jr. high and go to Amityville- it's very sad.

We live in Massapequa and DH grew up there. Great town, great SD, close to everything. But yes, very "white" as sassy said. The most desirable areas are South of Merrick Rd (also the most expensive) but most areas are great. I agree with everyone else - just avoid East Massapequa and the Amityville SD.

I do agree with the "whiteness" though - I signed my daughter up for nursery school and was a bit surprised (and disappointed) of the lack of diversity...when I grew up, we had a decent amount of many races in the district. Here it's more segregated.

But otherwise, it's a great town....Mass, #23 is SD with the best reputation from our research. I also agree that you'd want to avoid East Mass. since that district does go to Amityville. I think overall, the more South you are in the town, the more desirable it is.(we saw from our house hunting days that is) But around the village in the Park section is adorable, also Mass. Woods is nice, and most of the areas South of Merrick Rd are nice too.

My Parents grew up in Massapequa- Nassua shores. They lived near the Riveara. I still have an aunt that lives down there and i like to visit that neighborhood. It seems very nice. And my parents came out ok, so i guess the SD arent bad.

DH grew up in (and ILs still live there) in North Massapequa (Viceroy) and I think their neighborhood is very nice.

Massapequa is a great town, good schools, great location on the island. Park is adorable as well.

I live in South Massapequa... feel free to FM me... we looked for 9 months before buying our house so I know a lot about it... and DH's parents live in Biltmore Shores (massapequa) too... so I can probably help.

Being in the world of education I have been in and around many school districts. I must say that Plainedge is a wonderful district and for public education you can't find better teachers. They score consistently in the tops for all of Nassau, despite being one of the smallest districts. You are correc that diversity isn't huge, but it is getting a bit better. The kids are great kids and the community supports them. Don't be surprised if the budget DOES pass this year. Last year was the first failure in over 30years and they still pulled through for those kids. All areas are nice in Massapequa except for ones mentioned...so good luck to you!!

in defense of east massapequa, the area has improved alot over the past several years, with people doing home improvements on every block... we are more east and in the massapequa school district, and we love our area.

My family is from N. Massapequa and I love it there. It is such a great neighborhood. Right now my FH and I have a coop in queens but I would like to move back there in a year or two to be closer to my family. My FH is asian and he said he is nervous about moving there because the area is not diverse at all. But N. Mass would be my # 1 choice if I were looking for a home right now

I was born and raised in Massapequa Park and loved it. It was a great place to live. I went to public school and thought I got a great education. My parents are moving out east to retire and are selling their house, its in a great area in Massapequa Park, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, hot tub in the backyard, all updated and modern, let meknow if you have any other questions!!
