Husbands with crazy hrs?

Anybody else never see their husband?
My husband has insane hrs at his job and I barely see him, if he comes home by 9pm, I'm lucky.... last night he didnt come home from work till 1am. It's putting a strain on us... at least if he got paid OT for it, but he doesnt...
I dunno what to do...this isn't the type of marriage I signed up for....

Anyone else in this boat? or have advice?

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

My husband used to work 10-9 every day and on the weekends 10-8 and 11-6...with sometimes a meeting afterwards on Sunday until 10:00. I was just dealing with it, seeing my friends and going to the gym...just doing things by myself.

He recently switched jobs and now I see him on some days at 5:00 and other days he still works until 9:00. Now, with the baby I'm a little more occupied...obviously.

What still makes me upset is that as soon as he gets home, after he eats, he's out on the couch. Meanwhile I've been looking forward to seeing him all day and talking to him. I guess it's something I have to deal with...Chat Icon

FH will be going to school full time AND working full time in Sept. That means a 9am to 11pm day for him, plus homework on the weekends.

It *****, but I remind myself it isn't forever, three more years. In the meantime, I read a lot, knit & crochet a lot, etc to keep busy.

How long will he have that schedule? Is there any way he can change it?

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

well, I'm not personally going through it but my boss who is also a friend talks to me about her husband & his crazy hours. He's an accountant in the city & she's stuck with the 2 kids for the most part. When he is home he makes not time for her or the kids and it's taking it's toll on their family. Not a good situation and she's very unhappy. Chat Icon I don't think it's such a great situation to be in but then again everyone deals with it differently. I think you need to sit down and explain how you feel and that maybe the OT is not worth it....good luck! Chat Icon

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

its tuff...cuz in his industry he'll never have a 9-5 job, but at least if he was home by 730 i'd be fine...
but like i said he DOES NOT get OT for this...which makes it harder... Chat Icon

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

My DH is out of the house 7 days a week for about 14-15 hours. It's def. not easy but I'm used to it because DH always had crazy hours and days. When we were dating we would have to go out on a Tuesday instead of Saturday Chat Icon

I've always seen it as a positive and I use my time alone to see friends and family, clean the house, shop, etc.

Also I get to watch what I want on TV and I don't have to make dinner every night.

Good luck!

Boy does he!

My DH works in NYC (commutes every day from Northport!)
He leaves the house at 6am & doesn't get home until 11:15pm Monday-Thursday!!!!
Fridays he's home by 7ish.
He also works at the office on Sundays.
His normal office hours are not that bad, but after his regular job, he consults for another firm.
He figures he'll do it while he's young & he can, and before the baby comes!
Poor guy.

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

My husband also works crazy hours, but then again so do I. We're both attorney's in the city (commute from Commack). The hours haven't taken too big of a toll on our relationship yet because right now we have similar schedules, but once the baby comes he will be putting in a lot more hours than me and I wonder how that will affect our relationship.

I actually feel really bad for him because I know he's upset that he's not going to get to see the baby that much.

If I were you I would try to talk to your husband and tell him how you're feeling. You should try to keep in mind that it's probably very hard for him too. He may feel guilty and/or frustrated about not seeing you as much as he'd like, and/or he may feel pressure to work those hours if he is supporting the family (we don't make ot either, but we are expected to work a minimum of 200 hour months and would be looked down upon at work if we left earlier). I'd say the best thing to do is be open and honest about your feelings.

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

I hardly ever see my DH! I go to work at 8 a.m. and come home around 7 p.m. and he goes in at 11 a.m. and usually gets home long after midnight, plus he works all weekend. We get one or two evening together and that's it. But, I knew this when I got into the relationship (he is a bartender) and even though it's worse with this new job I learned a long time ago to deal.
I see my family, friends, work out and otherwise amuse myself when he is not around.

And I appreciate him soooo much more when we are together!

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

My Dh has Finally gotten better hours...but he is a cook....will never be perfect hours....But he Loves his job...and I knew that was in the plan when we met....

IN the past, he was working from 12 to Midnight, or 3 to 1AM...and I work 8:30 to 4:30...so it was just about a kiss goodnight and that was it...and when he had days off, he would want to just sit home and relax...

he Finally has a job where it closes at 9pm...he works 7am until 5pm tues and thurs and 7am till 9pm mon, weds,....fridays and saturdays is about 9 to 5, and sunday is OFF

WE Love it and have noticed how much happier we are to be able to spend time together..as it did have times where ti would take a toll on us....

Is there anyway your husband can change his hours? Or find a different job? does he know how much it hurts you>?Chat Icon Chat Icon

My DH use to work 3- midnight. It wasn't fun cause we couldn't eat together everynight or spend time together. BUT it made us appreciate the time together...

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

hubby works 12:30 - 9 and I work 10 - 7

He gets up with me and packs my lunch, starts my car, helps me with the laundry if I have to throw clothes in the machine or dryer, and watches the news while I am in the shower and lets me know of any accidents or delays on the interstate.

He is so good to me Chat Icon

He gets home by 10 and we spend time together discussing our day or watching tv.

We both have Sundays and Mondays off and we spend those 2 days doing errands or just relaxing

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

I am the one that works the crazy hours in the household.

I really do feel bad for DW. I work fulltime where I normally don't come home till 9pm after working out.

But when I DJ (usually 3 nights a week)... i am out till after 1am easily. By the time i get home she is sleeping.

Plus... I am in talks with a couple of new bars in the city... and I may expand my DJing to 5 nights a week instead of three. Chat Icon She is not going to be happy.

But she knows I really enjoy it... and the money is VERY good. She also doesn't mind when I buy her stuff, pay for her haircuts, give her spending cash, etc. So it works out for her I guess. But I am sure she would still like to see me more.

According to allwords.com the definition of a kept woman is as follows:

A woman supported financially by someone in return for being available to them as a sexual partner.

Chat Icon Nah.

The best thing about my wife is... she understands what I do in life. She doesn't sweat petty crap. I know a lot of women that frankly are just petty. Thank god I didn't marry one.

She gives me a lot of leiniency (sp?) with what I do. She just expects the same in return.

But no... i am not "keeping her" for sexual favors. Chat Icon Thats absurd.

Re: Husbands with crazy hrs?

And i'll also add for the record that I am VERY lucky to have her for a wife.

Cause i'll be honest... i can be a PITA at times. Chat Icon But she understands my ways.
