We've considered it but I don't want to leave my family. Also, DH works in investment banking, so he can really only get a job in a big city, so we'd be in the same situation anyway. Before my grandmother moved in with my mom we were seriously looking into Philadelphia, but that's not an option now.

DH is seriously considering it NOW instead of later. He is tired of the constant increase. we were gonna sell this house and move out east but NOW he is so angry I think he may want to leave sooner than later. ( our 5 yr plan was to move out of state)

We are definitely considering moving to Florida. Not entirely because of the cost of living here because we know we can make it. It's mostly because of the baby. Alot of my family with lots of babies his age have moved there and I really want him to grow up with a big extended family like both DH and I had. So we've been discussing it alot and I wouldn't be surprised if we left NY before he starts school.

Doesn't hurt that we could easily trade in our plain old hi-ranch for a sick house on the water with a pool and have a teeny mortgage payment! Chat Icon

If I could get DH on board, I'd be out tomorrow. But he needs a few more years to get used to the idea. It's based largely on cost of living but also quality of life. Long commutes, constant traffic, harder life for children... All of it really makes me, and is starting to make DH, believe it will be best for us and our future family to move elsewhere.

Right, same here, we owe 1/2 of what the house was appraised for so if we moved south we could get a really nice house too BUT the main reason would be so that DH doesnt have to work harder but instead work smarter. We have 1 life to live and if there was an opportunity to live out of NY where life would be simple AND have a savings for our children( when they come) I think its worth it. A lot of my family has moved to PA and DH immediate family lives in FL. My immediate family is here so it will be hard for me, but I have to think about me and DH and our family down the road. Ya know. its not an easy decision but Im tossing it around NOW instead of the original 5 yr deal.

Re: POLL:With the constant increase of the cost of living on Long Island...

I lived out of state for over 10 years and came back. NYers are my people.

Also, I doubt DH would ever leave NY. I will have a hard enough time getting him out of NYC, I think.

Where are you guys thinking of? Do you have a specific location in mind or really right now just "out of state"?

If you're concerned with schools, the schools in Fayette County GA are among the best in the country. Peachtree City GA (in Fayette County) was actually voted the number 8 best place to live in CNN's poll about a month ago. I would highly recommend both Peachtree City and Fayetteville GA (my sister has lived there for 16 years and my nieces are in the school system).

I voted no because DH has established a business here and he's worked too hard to sell it and move..

But I do hope to be a snowbird one day Chat Icon

We could move in a heartbeat!!!! Seriously considering Charlotte, NC. We both work in libraries, so finding jobs shouldn't be a problem. We need to stay in NY a few more years to get 20 years in the NYS pension system, then were gone!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: POLL:With the constant increase of the cost of living on Long Island...

We are comfortable and already own a house. We could stay here and be fine, but I would much rather move to Roanoke VA and be more than fine. I could stop working to take care of the babies, we wouldnt even have a mortgage...its so much more relaxed there - and cleaner! Plus my Mom is there and so are some of my friends.

DH refuses to move. Even though no one in his family can afford NY, they all stay.

I told him its OK for now, but if the time ever comes that we are struggling to get by, then he can say bye-bye to NY and hello Roanoke!
