UPDATE!!! Anyone know of a NO KILL shelter where my mom can bring a dog she found or interested in adopting a Female Lab Mix?

My mom found this wonderful female dog in the park across the street from her on Saturday. She has put up flyers everywhere, went to the neighborhood vets, posted pics and has contacted some rescuers and has put her info and pics on Craig's list. No one has claimed herChat Icon My mom says she is potty trained (she paws at her leash when she wants to go out), walks really well with you on a leash and seems well kept, etc. So it seems like someone loved her.
My mom would LOVE to keep her but she can't. She has a HUGE golden retriever at home (a puppy who is not neutered yet--so it's been fun trying to keep him away from the femaleChat Icon ) and another small dog and her house is tiny. So she would like to bring her to a no kill shelter. My mom won't bring her to a place where she will be killed if no one claims her or adopts her. Anyone have any ideas?

Here a few pics of the dog:

UPDATE: My inlaws took her!! Neither my mom nor I even thought of them since they already have a dog and didn't seem interested in getting another. But my FIL met her today (pure coincendence, it wasn't to see if he wanted to adopt her) and it was "love at first sight" for both of them. She went straight to him with her tail wagging and he just felt an instant connection with her. It turns out he had a dog that looked exactly like her growing up. We are so happy and relieved. My mom is ecstactic that she will still be involved in the dog's life and she has promised to babysit her whenever my in laws need her to. I'm pretty sure my inlaws are naming her "Lola." Thanks so much everyone for your help. We really appreciate it, You are all amazing and so caringChat Icon

She is so cuteChat Icon You could see if someone from LIF would be interested. I would if I could.

North Shore Animal League is no kill but I am not sure how readily they accept dogs. Def worth a shot!

Is she a specific breed? You could try the specific breed rescue (ie, pit bull rescue)

Good luck and let us know what happens to her.

Thanks so much for your help! I will keep you updated!

You're right DMcK!

If anyone here is interested in adopting her, please FM me. You could come visit her if you'd like. We believe she's a lab mix. She may have pitbull in her too. Thanks!

She can try Little Shelter, Save A Pet or Bide a Wee...those are the only no kill shelters I know off the top of my head.

I hope she finds a good home..she's a beautiful dog.

She's beautiful!

I think by law, any stray dog found Must go to a town animal shelter for 2 weeks before going to another place like Little Shelter. The people at Little Shelter are totally awesome, I would call them (631-368-8770) and get their advice. They won't steer you wrong.

Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE!!! Anyone know of a NO KILL shelter where my mom can bring a dog she found or interested in adopting a Female Lab Mix?

Im sure if the dog is housetrained, there are people looking for the dog.

Im glad that family took the dog in, but i hope they arent heartbroken if people come to claim him.

I would still take it to the Little Shelter or North Shore. They will check to see if the dog is microchipped. If he is, they will be able to call the owners.

good luck!

Re: UPDATE!!! Anyone know of a NO KILL shelter where my mom can bring a dog she found or interested in adopting a Female Lab Mix?

That's wonderful that your in laws want to adopt her, however, Meaghan729 made a very good point.

Have you brought her some place where they can check to see if she is microchipped? If she is, they can locate her owners immediately. As you said, due to her excellent condition and training, it seems as thought someone really loved her. I would hate to think that her family is out there somewhere heartbroken that they've lost her and don't know what's become of her. Chat Icon After you've contacted a shelter like Little Shelter, gotten their advice, and followed their instructions, and if her owners do not come forward to claim her, then by all means your in laws should most definitely adopt her. Re: UPDATE!!! Anyone know of a NO KILL shelter where my mom can bring a dog she found or interested in adopting a Female Lab Mix?

Hi,

Thank you!

Oh yes, my mom took her to a place where they checked if she was microchipped. But she isn't.Chat Icon My mom also made several reports with local rescuers and vets and shelters in Queens and LI (we live in Queens and found the dog in Queens). Those reports will remain active and if the owners are looking for her they will find her.
Of course if the previous owner came forward my in laws would give her back. My mom and I lost 2 dogs a many years back and we never found them. Chat Icon So we know how heart breaking it is. There's NO way we would keep someone elses dog like that.
