What is it like in your home?(LI WIFE SWAP)

Im sitting here tonight watching wife swap and im thinking about how everyone lives are so different with there DH. Im just curious about your relationship in your home. Who does the house work? Is it equal or one sided? Who works/ takes care of the kids? Shops etc.....

In my house I would say its 60% 40%. I of course do the 60%. I do most of the house cleaning such as bathroom, vacuum, washing floors and dusting. I do the food shopping and laundry. My DH does the dishes with me, clears the table, makes the bed, irons and tidies up the home.

My Dh is the typical man that does the manly duties in the home and he's very handy. He's really good when i have a craving for something such as ice cream. He will go out and get it for me if where home.


I actually like to cook and I do most of it. Although he usually cooks dinner once a week and makes breakfast on the weekends for us.

He does the Christmas cards,labels and mails them (SHOCKER RIGHT???) I did most of the Christmas shopping for us but he is getting the presents for most of his family.

I balance the bank book and write out the bills. He just checks in once and a while.

We have no kids yet and we both work full time.

I DO LIKE to TAKE CARE OF MY MAN BUT HE ALSO LIKEs TO TAKE CARE OF ME AS WELL. FOR THE MOST PART WE HAVE A GOOD BALANCE IN OUR HOME

While I think I do 90% verses DH's 10%...he thinks differently...

I do dishes, clean bathroom, kitchen, cook and laundry. PLUS, I take care of Jared.

DH does the vacuuming, straightens up the living room and sprays the glass tables (all my tables are glass in the house).

How does he get a different percentage?

its like 80% 20%

and DH does everything.

-he cleans (like hard core cleaning, i just pick up)
-he does the laundry
-i do the dishes (once in a very blue blue moon, we tend to use paper plates)
-he does teh grocery shopping
-i take 100% full care of teh dogs
-i dust
-i call the delivery food, he goes down and gets it
-i pay a tad more in rent
-he pays the bills
-he cooks

what else is there?

I do everything, all the cleaning, taking care of the kids, the shopping, the running (school, and other extracurricular activities), paying bills, all the cooking (my DH doesn't know where the kitchen is ), but I am a SAHM, and I my DH own his own business. I have had problems in the past with his lack of help and we discussed it and things have changed a lot, he helps with the kids when he gets home from work and on the weekends much more than he did before, he also leaves work for things like Jordans basketball games and other programs and meetings at school... as for the cleaning and cooking, still nada, but I like my house clean the way I want it cleaned We have different responsibilities in our marriage and it works

I'm a geographically single mom for 6 months of the year when Dh is deployed so naturally I take care of alot of the house work (internal and external) since he is away. Dh has it real easy in that regards compared to most husbands but its not by his choice he would help more if he was around more. And when he is around he helps where he can. But he loves what he does for work, and does great work and if someone has to do it I'm happy its him because he makes a difference :)

DH does the grocery shopping and cooking... I do the cleaning on the weekends, although he does help me out... dishes we switch, one day he does it, the next I do it....

I do the grocery shopping, some cooking, Laundry for Danielle and I. I clean up when the house looks dirty.....I work full time and in the warmer months have a side business. I work till 1:15pm, so I have time to run errands, for the house, food shopping, go to the cleaners, bank etc....

Danielle Doesnt like grocery shopping, she says I have a tendency of reading the labels too much and she just wants to get what she needs and leave. She does our laundry, and does some cooking too. She also cleans the apartment and the bathroom. She works full time and also works in the evenings and on the weekends. She is a teacher - so those teachers know what I am referring too. Their jobs dont end when they leave school in the afternoon.

We split the bills too..

She is funny - she calls me the model husband. I just figure the marriage is a partnership and we both have to give in at least 50% and we do.

We both work full time and make the same amount; I go to school for my doctorate full time on weekends. Household work is split 60/40, with me doing the 60. We grocery shop together, and share the cooking. Sunday mornings we make brunch together. I clean the bathroom and kitchen and do the laundry, he mops the floors and vacuums. He also fixes the "broken" stuff--fixed leaky toilet last weekend. He writes the checks for mortgage, gas, electric, cable, etc. Also he takes out the garbage.

DH cooks more than me (because he likes to eat more than me!) and does a lot of work around the house (installed new windows, work in the yard etc.)

But, he does NO cleaning at all- I do 100%. I also do 90% of the laundry. If I don't fold laundry, it will just sit there in a pile FOREVER until he wears it- then he is upset that it is wrinkled and asks me to iron it!

I get frustrated about the cleaning, but he does do a lot of big fixer upper projects. ETA: he also pays bills- so it's okay!

I would say it's 60/40 on most days just for the sheer fact that I *think* of what to do ... he does anything and everything I ask him to, but my brain is always the one thinking about defrosting food or cleaning up or food shopping.

As for specifics - he food shops and goes to the dry cleaner. I cook and do the laundry. We have a cleaning lady to scrub our stuff each week. I make the bed and straighten up. It's all interchangable though.

I do everything else -
dishes
clean the rest of the apartment
mop the floors
straighten up 9999 times a day

We do laundry (at the laundromat) together, food shop together, one will write a check for this bill, one will write a check for that bill,

I work from home so I do just about all the laundry, cooking and grocery shopping - but he would if he had to. We have a cleaning lady so that takes away a huge chunk of work.

He does major handyman stuff - new deck, fixes gutters, fixes the cars, etc. He is very neat and clean, sometimes cooks breakfast on the weekends. He pays all the bills except my personal stuff.

I do all the mundane things like get people in for estimates when we need work done, send the Christmas cards, dry cleaning, banks...etc. Anything I can do easily from work (home), or on my lunch break. He leaves at 6:30 am and gets home at 8pm, so he doesn't have nearly as much time as I do.

I have noticed that my DH does do a lot around the house...but not necessarily when I want/need them done.

He does the yard, and all the house repairs and construction stuff. He feeds the dogs, he does laundry, but ususally gets left in the dryer for me to fold and put away. He does dishes, he will cook,

I do the bills, the real heavy cleaning, making the bed, all that stuff. I rarely cook, except on Sundays and I do the food shopping.

Oh, and he rubs my back every night while in bed watching tv.

I take care of the baby, cook, clean, do laundry, iron and fold clothes, buy cards and presents, etc

DH will take out garbage and cut boxes for recycle and pays the bills

We seem to have a floating 60/40. Sometime I do 60% and other times he's doing the 60%. Not sure if that makes sense but it seems the best way to describe it. During his busy season (January - June) I tend to be the 60% and for the other half of the year we kind of balance out. We usually share most tasks - he does the laundry and I fold. I cook and he cleans the dishes. He does all of the home improvement projects and I try to help with the work - I am in charge of picking colors and decorating. We both put up the tree but I put on all the lights and handle all of the Christmas shopping and wrapping - he doesn't argue with my choices or spending. We split up rooms in the house to clean. I clean the kitchen, dust the bedrooms, polish the dining room table, clean the mirrors and all glass (including windows), and mop. He Cleans the entire bathroom and vacuums every room and sometime does the high mirrors for me.

Since I'm a SAHM, I pretty much take care of everything around the house, with the exception of paying the bills. DH takes care of that.

Lets see I do most of the cleaning (but we do have someone who comes in 2x a month), I make the bed and always do the dishes.

DH takes out the garbage and back in. That is really his main job.

I usually go food shopping, but he will come with me if it's a big one. And he always brings the bags in from the car for me while i put the grocerys away.

As for cooking we split it but DH is a better cook and will do it more then i do really.

We both usually do our own laundry but recenlty i have been doing his and I always do the sheets and towels.

My DH is really good though, before we got clenaning ladies and i would go on my hour tour of the house cleaning he feels bad doing nothing so will work on cleaning stuff up.

We both work full time jobs, so we try and do as much for each other as we can. This morning DH forgot to take out the garbage so i did it.

So i would have to say 60-40 (me-him)

It's 70% him and 30% me. I work long hours and commute to NYC from CT so I don't have time to cook and am usually too tired to clean. DH works long hours, but has a very short commute so he is home 2-3 hours before me. He cooks and cleans dishes although not as much as he did during his clerkship, which was a 9-5 job. If we have time, we go food shopping together on the weekends, but otherwise he picks up stuff during the week. We each do our own laundry. We split up the apartment cleaning-he usually cleans the kitchen and livingroom and I usually clean the bedroom and bathroom. We split the bills-I pay the utility bills and credit cards in my name and he pays the utility bills and credit cards in his name.
