Some places want you to do an enema, and some don't. I had my first HSG done and a radiology place and they told me I needed to do an enema beforehand.
My second HSG was done by MY RE in the hospital, and no one said anything about an enema, so it doesn't make a difference.

Hi Guys, I'm here. I'm home.
I'm not feeling too great though.
The procedure was pretty painful. I cried. I should have brought Mike in the room with me. It took about 10 mins and I watched it all on the screen. Everything was hurting and cramping pretty bad. I don't want to do that again. Not ever. I'm still cramping now, I've taken 7 Advil in 4 hours but I'm still cramping and spotting. I'm just glad to be home.
The doctor who did the HSG said that the results looked good to him. I could see the contrast filling up in my uterus and then moving in to my tubes and then starting to empty out. I was trying to pay attention but the pain was so bad and I was crying and just trying NOT to think about what was happening (side note: I have a low pain tolerance).
ANyway the dr who did the HSG said it looks good but that isn't the final word. The xrays will be sent to my OBGYN and she will give me the final word on the results. Or at least she is SUPPOSED to, but with her history the last few weeks I'm not holding my breath.
So next step for me is I have my annual a week from tomorrow, also 7 days afeter I ovulate I have to have more blood work to check my progesterone levels. But just today I found out that I also have to have an endometrial biopsy. Which totally s u c k s. I have had one before when I had precancerous cells on my cervix. It is really painful. I can't believe I have to go through this again.
I just want this to be over. Done. Finished.
I am not feeling too great and I'm going to go lay down. Thank you for your well wishes and thinking about me.

PS No one asked me if I used the enema and I didn't tell them that I didn't - it seems to be a non issue! I am SO GLAD I didn't bother with it. t would have just made the day more awful.

Glad your tubes are clear. Im so sorry, I know I wanted DH to come in the room, but they told him to stay out in the waiting room.
I thought mine was very painful too, and wanted to cry. The nurse held my had. I felt like a baby, but it is done. Sound like it went well.

Aww Kathy I am so sorry the procuedre was painful - I truly have been thinking of you all day and was hoping it wasn't so bad .
BUt at least its over and from the sounds of it your tubes are clear, which is the most important part 
I know all these procedures stink - I have had my fair share of gynelogical issues since I am a teenager and they NEVER get any easier, especially when it comes to this time in our lives and TTC. You'll get through it all, try not to think of the next steps tonight and just take care of yourself
I hope you get lots of rest and lots of TLC from your Dh . Feel better soon.. FM me if you need anything even if just to chat

Kathy, I've been thinking about you allll day. I'm so sorry you had to endure such pain. Hopefully, they'll get some results from the test that will help you get preggers. I'm happy you're home now. Feel Better!

I'm so sorry it was painful! I am even MORE glad that it's over!! Lots of and that you feel better soon.
Also, that your obgyn calls you back VERY quickly with the news that your tubes are all clear!

I just wanted to say I am glad it's over for you. Hopefully everything will be good...it certainly sounded that way.
BTW, I have heard that your chances of getting PG are better after an HSG cuz it makes everything more slippery...maybe it will be a great thing in the long run.

Yikes - I'm so sorry to hear that it was painful. My sister just had hers and said that she didn't feel much at all, but everyone is different. I have mine on Thursday and now I'm getting nervous! 
But thank GOD they didn't tell me that I had to do an enema because I would've had the same reaction as you! 
I hope everything works out ok with your results

LORDY! Youve been through a LOT! Im so sorry, it truly STINKS! Im surprised the Dr is putting you through so much right now.
When do you need the biopsy? I have had a few biopsies due to my cancer so I feel your pain, but I think that pain will be less then today hopefully and thankfully!
I still ( though am no dr) think that you have a progesterone issue, and am hoping thats it, as its so easily treated from what I read.
( I am a dope , and forgot this AM to go for my blood work for MY progesterone!

YES I am hopeful that maybe it will change things for me this month and maybe I will have good results.
But I am just happy it is done with. I feel better tonight, the spotting has stopped and I havent taken any Advil in a couple of hours.
Annie - You're right, everyone IS different and like I said in my earlier post, I do NOT Have a high threshold for pain...I'm a big baby (and I'm the first one to admit it  ) so really, don't go by my experience. The other girls are right though, it does feel like very heavy AF cramping. The part that was very painful for me was when they clamped down on my cervic so they could stick the cathater (sp?) inside. UGH - oh GOd I don't even wanna talk about it...
But really, I'm a big baby so don't get nervous!!!
