Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

The thing is with Nutri system, that they give you all the foods that you need with the exception of the veggies, fruits, salads etc....

They also give you yummy desserts. So if you like to have candy or sweets at a certain time during the day, you can arrange to have that snack at the time you need it. You dont need to eat the meals at the regular times.

For example if you want to switch the lunch meal with the dinner meal, you can. You can have your afternoon snack at night, and your evening dessert during the day.

They have many yummy snacks, including their chocolates, and their garlic cheese pretzels. They are soooo goood.

I am a junk food junkie myself, but since starting this plan, I have no desire to eat food that is not on the NS plan. I am satisfied with the food that I purchased, and also satisfied with eating the fruits, and veggies too.

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

How soon after ordering does the food arrive?

Also-how often do you "weigh in".... once a week? or once a month??

I know everyone is different...just curious

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

They said it would take 6 days to receive the food - I received it in 3.

I usually weigh myself twice a week but count the weight loss from the 7 day intervals. For example, I weigh in monday, Friday, and then Tuesday and calculate my weight on tuesday as one week.

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

Hey guys, glad to hear everyone is doing well..

Marissa - Scott and Jen answered a lot of your questions, but if I can help at all feel free to ask. Dh and I have both been on NutriSystem since the end of September and I've lost 35 pounds, Dh has lost more than 40. I have about 13 more until I reach "goal." I weigh myself 1x a week and log into the N/S website to keep track of myself.. if I weigh myself more often I get too obsessive with the fluctuations in my weight

You don't have a lot to lose Maris, so you probably could do the N/S food Mon-Friday (like the QVC plan) and take weekends off (within reason, eating healthy, portion controlled) and still lose. DH and I now both 'cheat' a bit on the weekends and it has not done any damage at all. I actually made it through the holidays and LOST weight, because no matter how bad I ate on the holidays I went right back to N/S the following day. But for me, in the beginning I was really strict with myself since I had a lot to lose.

Only other drawback with the the QVC plan is that it doesn't allow you to customize the order.. and I'm still a bit leery of the food on Ebay, if its "fresh" or not.. but that is your decision..

The great part about N/S is that they do provide you with one snack a day... either a salty/crunchy snack like soy chips or pretzels, etc or a sweet snack like chocolates, flavored bars, puddings, etc You can have the snack in the afternoon or evening, whatever works. You also get other "add" ons like a yogurt, cheese, fruit as an afternoon 'snack' ..

TRUST ME I am a JUNK FOOD lover! My diet before NutriSystem was junk all the time... I used to prefer not eat meals and eat junk food all daylong...soo bad!

Also as Scott suggested, Dh and I have gone to Appelbees for the WW entrees and they are delicious and also fit well into the plan.. no damage done when I eat out. Its all about trying to make better choices, portion control, etc. I have to say this plan really truly works for me, I don't feel deprived at all !

GOOD LUCK all Chat Icon

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

Oops one more thing..

As for the costs.... it really does come out to be "less" for me this way than when DH and I would go food shopping, or we'd eat out all the time.. plus I'd buy breakfast/lunch in the city , etc. It added up!

What DH and I do is "stagger" our shipments by about 3 weeks so right when one order is about done (we share the food from one order), we'll get the next order to replenish the food.. once you order, you can 'refer' your DH to the plan and you will both get discount codes for the referral.. Dh and I will eat the food from one order together.. so in essence we're ony paying the $260ish one time every 3-4 weeks.. not 500-600 at the same time.. it makes it seem like less that way Chat Icon

BTW, today was day one for me...DO NOT get the lemon poppyseed muffins..I literally gagged and threw it out. I had the frosted flakes for b-fast, they were good, the ham and bean soup for lunch with a salad I made - good, and the pizza for dinner - good!

Jen, I HATE all the muffins too.. lemon poppyseed are awful (the smell alone reminds me of lemon furniture polish.. LOL) I love practically all the cereals, all the granola bars and the pancakes are delicious(I usually make those on the weekend)..

It takes time to figure out what stuff you like best, they say you should try everything 1x and this way you know for sure what you prefer... I have certain things I get every month now that I love, other things I would NEVER touch again!

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

Sounds good...

One more question.... I know you say the food is good...but Im such a picky eater...There are very few veg. that I eat.... what I use to do with smart ones, was just eat around the veg. I didnt like...

Can you do this with these meals...???

I think Im gonna join the beg of next month...

Should I do the I only wanna lose 10lbs plan or the other one...

All I wanna do is get to my pre preggo weight (which is less 15lbs) but a little extra never hurt no one Chat Icon

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

DH & I started the diet on Monday - I feel like I am constantly eating something every few hours.

I am having some trouble drinking all the water- I am up to about 4 glasses a day.

I was on the plane Monday with the mashers and I added the hot water to the entree and apparently it wasn't hot enough and they never really thickened. I heated them in the oven on the plane and then forced myself to down them.

Other then that I am loving those cranberry breakfast bars-
the peptide choc. with almond was so yummy- had it for lunch yestrday.
The banana muffin was pretty good too.

I am excited to weigh myself on Monday but nervouse because as I said I am constantly eating.

Its been preety easy to follow- that little yellow book fits right into my purse.

ETA- love thier chocolates

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

The thing about this plan that is awesome is that I am never hungry.

This morning, I had my coffee with 2 splendas, and a little skim milk

NS Nutri Cinnomon Squares - Used the milk in the coffee as being like I put the milk in the cereal - ate the cereal dry though.

Then I had 2 egg whites

One Centrum Performance Vitamin

I still have a carb to eat - and a dairy for lunch, that I will eat this morning. I have a whole wheat english muffin, with 5 sprays of ICBINB (I cant Believe its not butter), and a Slice of Cheese.

I have a Peach too

For Lunch I have the NS Black Beans and RICE, love this meal and an Apple instead of the salad.

For Snack, I will have a Yogurt, and an Orange.

Dinner - not sure yet.

The foods I dont like:
Eggs
Lemon Poppy Sead Muffins
Beef and Pasta
Spicy Oriental Noodles

I love the Lasagna
Steak with Risotto
Pot Roast
Beef Stroganoff
Pizza is alright - needs veggies for toppings.

Chocolates
Pretzels with garlic and cheese

Way to go, sounds like you are doing great!!

I totally agree, at first it DOES feel like you are eating alot, -- I was sure I couldn't lose on this plan but I did and you will also!

Some days I don't get all my servings in, which is bad, but trust me when I say that you will do great Chat Icon

I was HORRIBLE at drinking my water, but now I am really good at getting all my water in every day - give it time, you'll be able to do it!

Let me also make this comment - those "mashers" are probably one of THE nastiest lunches, IMO.. I had to throw it out, could not even force it down Chat Icon I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them as well, but let me assure you that there are MANY more "yummy" items than that... don't let that worry you.. !! One thing I've learned with all the lunches items that you need to "add hot water" to is that you should NOT fill it up to the line in the cup.. fill up to just a little bit BELOW the line.. this way, it'll make all the items thicker or cremier and less watery.. it really improves the taste. I love the black beans and rice, the cream of broccoli soup, the minestrone soup, pasta parmesean/broccoli . THE "classic N/S" cheesey potatoes are DELICIOUS, nothing at all like the mashers.. give them a shot also..!

continued GOOD LUCK!Chat Icon

Hi guys!!! How is everyone doing? sounds like gREAT!!!!!!!
with the food that taste eh like the muffins, be creative, put I cant believe its not butter on them, if you like berries, make a spread with them and put them on the muffins. as for the eggs, I dont mind them, but use lots of veggies in them, peppers, onions, mushrooms or put some low cal cheese on it make an omelette. those mashers- I just cant seem to think of anything with them and they are Chat Icon
So far Im only averaging about a 1lb a week now and thats b/c well I have a HUGE sweet tooth and I fell off the rocker quite a few times( thanks to PMS and AF and those chocolate & ice cream cravings), Chat Icon but Im just glad that Im still losing. between Tom and I, we went thru 3 bags of salad this week. I like the Newman's own Lite Balsamic and Lite Raspberry and Walnut dressings. I also add a few dried cranberries or kidney beans in the salad along with the veggies.

ETA: I love the vegetable lasagne w meat sauce!

Re: THE OFFICIAL..... NUTRISYSTEM .....thread

I just saw this from CNN.com

NutriSystem lures men with pizza, sex

Monday, January 30, 2006; Posted: 2:02 p.m. EST (19:02 GMT)
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Nate Griffin, a former Army sergeant, watches what he eats. He's even tried juice diets to shed pounds. But ask him if he'd join a group to talk about weight loss and he cringes.

"To talk about a diet means you're really weak in a certain area," said Griffin, a personal trainer in a Philadelphia suburb. "It's like saying 'I need this group to help me beat that."'

A new advertising campaign is taking a different approach, focusing instead on sports metaphors, confidence and -- sometimes -- sex.

"Since NutriSystem, my sex life is excellent," a male dieter says in one testimonial that claims a loss of 62 pounds.

The new campaign by NutriSystem Inc. was designed to appeal to men who want to lose weight but who don't like groups, counting calories or laborious food preparations. After many focus groups, the Horsham, Pennsylvania-based company realized guys required a different approach.

The company dangles this lure: They can eat pizza, burgers and pasta. NutriSystem's portion-controlled meals are microwavable. There are no group meetings and they can diet at home, privately.

"Seventy million people are on a diet -- 20 million are men," said Djordje "George" Jankovic, NutriSystem's president and chief operating officer. "It's a huge market."

Founded in 1972, NutriSystem operated mainly as weight-loss centers offering packaged meals. After a bankruptcy in 1993 and management and ownership changes, a new team put the company on its own diet, closing centers and moving into direct sales to consumers, with updated packaging, improved food and aggressive marketing.

Its new pitch is to offer free support for customers who pay for the food, and it is planning to target seniors soon, too, by offering foods infused with more vitamins as well as gingko biloba and green tea.

NutriSystem still faces an uphill battle for market share, though. It wasn't named by dieters in an October survey by NPD Group, a market research firm, because other programs or eating plans had more participants.

A report last year on diet programs by Consumer Reports, which didn't include NutriSystem, gave Weight Watchers the highest marks. This month, EDiets.com Inc. kicked off a premium food delivery service called FreshCuisine. And Jenny Craig Inc. began its own meal delivery service last year.
