Re: Selling my wedding gown

If you "truly" want to sell it, then try ebay but don't get upset when you don't make the $$ you thought you would. Most of the time, they don't go for more then hundreds!

For me, I am preserving mine so that one day I can either make a christening outfit for my daughter or even have the option that if she wanted to wear it, she could. My mom never preserved hers but I have pranced around in it when I was younger! My mom would get kicks out of it bc she would try to see if she could get back into it too!!!

I sold a gown (from my 1st engagement 10 years ago, not my recent one) and I received a tenth of what I paid for it on ebay........Good luck, kiddo!! See what you can get....

It is stunning, but you have to remember is is tailored to fit you and most people who look on ebay, etc, are looking for a deal.

Good luck.

I honestly think you may regret this.

I think if you are having money issues, the party needs to be cancelled. You are only digging yourself deeper. But, it is your decision.

I agree 100%

I agree. I'm sorry, but with all these money issues you keep posting about, a party just sounds like a rotten idea right now. It isn't a priority, considering you just had a great party recently, your wedidng. I think you need to rethink your priorities.

Re: Selling my wedding gown

The market is flooded with used wedding gowns, you won't make too much. But if it's worth it for a few hundred bucks, definitely give it a shot. A lot of people are sentimentally attached, but not everyone.
Maybe you could post on LIW, for dog sitting or babysitting- I know theres someone needing a sitter for her wedding day, that probably happens a lot. And I paid a girl there $50 to watch my dog Busey overnight, on our wedding day.

This will pass, you are simply adjusting to a new budget. I know how you feel, with the taxes. You think, wow- I got a huge raise, I'm rich, but reality hits, and you need to stick to the same old budgt you had before.
It's human nature, in my opinion, to live to the extent of your means. This puts you in exactly the same place as someone bringing in a 60K household income. You could be making $250K, and still have to budget yourself.

ETA- Cancel the party- throw one at home.

Re: Selling my wedding gown

Don't sell it if it's not in your heart to.

What do you do for a living? If you have any writing talents, I can assign you some freelance work! It's engineering/techy stuff....but not all of it. Let me know!

Edit: after reading everything through, you don't sound that sentimental about it....maybe we should stop telling her not to if she wants to...me included!

This wouldn't help your cash flow situation, but I donated my gown to the Bridal Garden. All the proceeds goes to Sheltering Arms - they sponsor programs for underpriviliged kids. According to the IRS, you get credit for 50% of the cost as a charitable contribution on your tax return.

Ebay or Craigslist. I would probably try Craigslist first since it's free.

I completely agree with the previous poster - however if you really want to sell it I would try ebay or LIW.

Regarless, its something. Plus, what do i need it for? I have NO intention on preserving it. I want to pay for Matts party and this is a great way to do it!! I have no use for it and its hangiong collecting dust when i can make back maybe 1/2 of what was paid for it!

I would try LIW first - post on the 07 and 08 boards. if you dont get ay bites, I would try ebay. it is a beautiful gown (sorry I already have mine!)

I agree...I would try LIW first...I didn't preserve mine either. I should do the same.

Since we're all married...or not really planning weddings...why don't you post on LIW? It's a wedding website.

My Mom got rid of her wedding gown a long time ago and it always angered me that she didn't keep it for me and for sentimental value, but do you as you must Chat Icon

Exactly my plans. Have been always saying it too. My mother already found a seamstress.
If you truly, truly want to sell it, I'd go to Ebay or LIW.

See I get a little angry when I tell people I might sell my wedding dress and they say "oh you can use it for a christening gown." and I say "no, I won't I am Jewish."

Michele, wait a week or so and make sure you really want to part with it. Don't make the decision hasty because it will bring you in some extra cash. You don't want to wind up regretting it later.

It is a stunning dress, and you looked lovely in it, I hope you get a good price for it. Now I may think of selling mine too!

You need to do what is right for you, but honestly, I do not think you will make enough to make it "worth" selling.

Re: Selling my wedding gown

Out of curiosity, I did look on Ebay when I was looking at dresses and I don't think most went for more than a few hundred. And honestly, I wouldn't have been willing to shell out more than that for a used dress, no matter how much it cost originally.

I would try on LIW too. Good luck!

Re: Selling my wedding gown

I read through this entire thread and couldn't help but laugh.

This woman has not asked for advice regarding her financial situation. She has simply stated that she would like to sell her wedding dress and asked how she can go about doing it. Leave it be!

To answer your question, like many people already said...try ebay! Good luck with it.

I'm not even sure I know where my gown is. I have no sentimental attachments to it whatsoever! *Shrug*
