Do you own your own house or condo?

ETA: or co-op, or whatever you currently live in. Just do you own it or not.

Yes we own. But we bought the house before we got married. We couldn't do both at once and thought it was better to buy first. Some people looked down on us, but I am so happy we bought when we bought.

no, we rent. but i dont want to own anything for anohter like 5-10 years anyway because we like living in the city.
BUT.... once we start raising kids we will move and buy a house.
not sure where though.
DH really doesnt want us moving back to LI so i have no idea where else we would go.

We own a house. We actually bought it together before we got engaged in 2000. People said it wouldn't be a good thing, I think it was the best thing we've ever done (besides our kids ).

Yes, we own a condo. I bought it long before I met hubby and he moved in a year before the wedding.

We rent.

I was renting , Dh moved in a few months before the wedding, we were going to break our lease & move a few months afer we got married, but our builid was goign & kicked us out a month after we got married, so we had move & rent b/c we didnt' have tim eto buy & it was to much to move again after 1 year, so we are trying to buy a co-op this fall.

I do feel really behind though.

Ugh. I'm so stressed. We are having a baby and do not own a home yet, and I am feeling like we are horrible, irresponsible people for it. I was raised with the belief that owning a home before having a baby is a MUST. I mean, we have a roof over our heads and can afford to rent a bigger place, but we just cannot afford to buy anything right now. We're not in the boat of thinking we will NEVER be able to buy anything, but I just feel so unprepared to have a baby ONLY because we don't own a house or condo. I hate living in limbo. I never truly get comfortable because I always know we have to pick up and move soon, anyway. I'm just feeling really sad over this today.

We own the house that we now have under major renovations which I have owned for almost 13 years.

We used our wedding presents and savings to make a downpayment and purchase our townhome 3 months after our wedding.

i grew up in an apartment my whole life, and my parents still rent. i see no problem with renting now, or when i have kids- as long as the apartment is big enough (meaning, not the one we're in now ). We're saving over $1,000/month in rent vs. mortgage, and if something breaks, it doesnt come out of OUR pockets. i feel much more financially stable because of that, and to me, i'd rather bring a child up with that stability over being in a house just for the sake of it

We rent. For now. God willing we'll be homeowners in about 2 months!

As for your dilemma, you are not going to be horrible parents because you don't own. That's silly. All a baby needs is love, warmth and comfort - all things you will provide. When the time to own is right for you and JT it'll happen. This is not something you should be down on yourself over!

Rachel, there are many many parents out there who own houses and are horrible parents. What kind of place you have will not determine what kind of parents you will be. You are going to be awesome parents! Trust me! My parents rented for years!!! And all I know is that they loved me very very much.

We just bought a house and moved in a week before the baby was born. We had to make major sacrifices to buy it rather than stay in the apartment we were renting. If we still rented, I could possibly be a SAHM and not go back to work, but buying the house was very important to me and DH.
