No I haven't tried a carrier yet...I have the baby bjorn one...

So is 20-24 ounces in a 24 hour period acceptable? or does it have to be 24 ounces precisely. What do you ladies think?

I've even heard of 18-24 or is that for newborns?

Kerri only just these past few days is eating more then 24 oz and she is 8 weeks old. Your son seems to be eating just fine

i read that you should multiply 2.5 by your child's weight and that is how many oz. they should be drinking. foe ex. hannah is 6 lbs, so she should drink at least 15 oz.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think if you relax with worrying about how much he eats, you will find everything a lot easier and less stressful! Babies also can read your stress levels and will act on that, so if you are tense, the baby will pick upon it and be more fussy. Also, I think if he wants to eat, he will and if he doesn't, he won't! When Noah was under 12 weeks I was obsessed with getting him weighed and would go every week...its very common to be really wrapped up in that.

We had a lady come to our babygroup today and give a talk about babywearing, and I think you might want to get yourself a sling. Not a bjorn, but a proper babywearing sling. Here is a website about Babywearing Have a look at a ringsling or maybe a slingling. I know some of the girls on here loved the Ellaroo.

I hope this helps!

Sometimes I feel like saying "to hell with the clock and just feed whenever he seems hungry" but then how would you know if he is getting the ounces he is supposed to be getting.

Worth every penny if it saves your sanity. You can buy used on thebabywearer forums, and resell when you are done for practically the same price.

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

Is anyone here concerned if their baby does not intake the 24 ounces every day? Is anyone here content with 20-24?

Will they still gain the one ounce per day? Or will they still gain period?

Honestly - my doctor never said anything about how much my kid is/should be eating.

In my opinion - if the doctor is sooooo obsess with about much your son is eating - is there another problem as to why?
Did your son lose ALOT of weight since he was born?????

i have no idea how much DD takes each day. i EBF and we had some weight gain issues early on. i thought for sure the dr. was going to suggest supplementing last week, but she gained enough to hit an acceptable tolerance on the curve. she is at the low end of the scale, but the dr. stated as long as she maintains her percentile or goes higher, he's not too concerned.

i go by wet and poopy diapers.

i get confused with 2 things:

1) now that she is more alert i can't always tell the difference between wanting to suckle and wanting to eat. my solution = watch the clock and when in doubt shove a boob in her face. if she's hungry she'll go to town, if not, she'll turn away.

2) when i pump for DH to give a bottle, how much to feed her? solution = total experimentation. at 3/4 weeks she took 2 ounces. now she can take 2.5-2.75. does she seem satisfied? yes. will she take more without spitting up? we are going to try this weekend. we'll try 3, 3.5 and 4. i don't think she'll want more because when i pump i don't get that much. so i am kinda estimating by supply/demand.

i personally would not stress over any given number - ranges are provided for a reason, just like adults, not all babies are the same!

No he hasn't but I have it in my head that if he doesn't reach the 24 ounces that he will start loosing weight or gain it slowly.

I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are that concerned you could buy an infant scale and check his weight weekly, or go to the doctor for a weight check. I wouldn't recommend weighing him more often than weekly though.

We were very concerned in the beginning because of jaundice and was able to borrow a scale from my SIL and it saved us a lot of worry. DS is now almost 10 weeks and over 12 pounds.

They say that if a baby sleeps a lot they are growing. But when they don't does mean they are loosing weight?

No, it does not mean that. I really think you are overthinking all of this, is your baby losing weight?

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

He's been sleeping for almost 3 hours now. I cannot believe it!!! His last meal was at 11:25 am. Should I wake him up for a feeding? or let him sleep since he didn't yesterday. Should I just feed on demand???

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

I think you need to try to put the weight issue out of your mind for a few days and relax....just try to forget about it.

I think as a first time mother its so easy to get caught up with something like this...but the truth is, you just need to do what feels right for you! For me what felt right was offering Noah a bottle whenever I thought he might want it, I had no idea of how much he had per day, or even how many bottles he had, but I knew his diapers were wet and poopy, he seemed happy and I seemed happy.

My motto is, I am too lazy to be stressed!
You need to adopt that one!!!

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

The soothie pacifiers with the stuffed animals attached are called wubbanubs. You can order them at soothie.com. When my DS (now 5) was an infant, he rarely slept during the dayor at night. He wouldn't take a pacifier and nothing helped. When he was 3 months old, we started ferberizing him. It didn't really work, so he ended up in our bed until he was about a year and a half. It wasn't really our parenting philosophy, but sometimes you just need to get some sleep! He transitioned to a crib later, and now he sleeps beautifully. My DD (17 months) has always slept and napped well, especially since we started using the soothie. We started using it when she was 10 weeks, and it worked like a charm-so there is definitely hope for you. You can get the "regular" soothie pacifiers at Target, Babies R Us, or Buy Buy Baby. Good luck and I wish you much daytime rest-you deserve it!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am so tempted and nervous about doing that.

I did order the soothie pacifer and that thingy that holds it in place...that thing is on back order though...
