Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people all the time. We all make decisions that would not typically be considered life and death yet it becomes just that. The entire situation is incredibly tragic, but I personally don't see what boycotting will really accomplish.

Re: Boycott Aruba?

I don't think anyone is considering boycotting Aruba just because a girl is missing. Bad things happen everywhere. The issue is how the government is handling it, and are they withholding information? If you feel the government is being shady, then you might boycott...

sorry guys if I was a little unclear.
I didn't mean anything illed. I too said that as a mother I feel horrible for ANY parent to go through this..be it here or any country.
But I'm sickened that nobody puts any blame, not even partially on Natalee herself. Bad decisions= bad consequences.

I can totally ralate to what you are saying, but guess what no one makes bad choices because we're so smart. If she hadknown she would be killed I doubt she would have gone with them. I was in her place, when I was 19 I hung out w/ some I considered close and this is that I did know him. I got drunk and he took advantage of me. Was I thinking this would happen, no. I was naive & trusted people way too much. But still, her actions are no excuse for her being killed. Chat Icon

Don't people feel that way about the United States? People still come here to visit.

Well if people disagreed strongly enough about our government's decisions, then I doubt they would visit.

That's true.

I just think the victims of boycotting a place that is very dependent on tourism is not the people responsible for the shadiness in this situation.

For the people boycotting Aruba, is that boycott being extended to the Netherlands since it is considered to be part of that nation?

I'm so sorry Chat Icon
No,no one deserves anything horrible to happen, not with a friend, not with a stranger.
I'm just saying, where was her common sense? I keep putting myself in her situation..I too was there at her age..only the club was called Visage, not Carlos n Charlies. Great local club in Aruba. There were tons of Americans in there, really cool..so many times we'd start hanging out with ppl just because they'd say "hey,we're from NY too... NY in the house!" you get the point. I had NO IDEA who these ppl really were. We'd hang-out but thats it,see ya. Then there were tons of local guys. They had crazy one liners "american women are soooo beautiful" blah,blah,blah.. one even told me how he was dying of a tumor. Would love to spend his last days with me & my girlfriends... We just laughed and gave him a "whatever" attitude. I don't care how nice looking or cleancut..someone you JUST met or have know for a few hours is a STRANGER.
Look, **** happens amoungst friends..let alone strangers.

You know, thank God nothing major happened to me but I learned my lesson. I just feel like we can't judge this situation because it's based on that "the guys" said and she's not here to tell her said. There are always 3 sides to the story. His, hers & the truth. I have my daughter and I just think about what if. It's a horrible situation regardless of what really went on.

Re: Boycott Aruba?

I too have a gut feeling that she is alive and most everything points to exactly what these articles are saying..sex-slavery. I can't and have not bought the murder theory from day 1..if you've been to Aruba you know, theres just no where to get rid of a body..its all sand & rock, rock & sand. No evidence, puff! like magic she just dissapeared?
Ppl should be aware of where they are going. Prostitution is LEGAL in Aruba and gov't regulated, just like in the Netherlands. Pick-up any local paper and the last 3-4 pages are devoted to adds for "young, hot women/men at your door in 15 minutes or less" Annddd... Just in case anyone is about to flame me for that statement..its legal in the US too..its called Vegas!

I've never been to Aruba before but will next January. But I've heard that there is a side that the waters are very rough and that if her body was thrown in and further out into the sea that perhaps that would explain why her body never appeared.....

True, its rougher on the other side of the island. Mostly jagged rock, not real beaches in a "beachy" sense. I guess they could have discarded her on that side but "they" as in "who".. the 3 boys? Its pitch black on the other side,no lighting, only dirt roads. When (and on who's boat) could they have thrown her there? Wouldn't SOMETHING wash ashore? Same reasoning I have when the articles mentioned boats by the California lighthouse.. Good Lord,I've never seen a boat there, the water is soooo rough! No beach, only short cliffs. Could they have thrown her off a cliff onto a waiting boat? Chat Icon Doubt it.
Have you ever heard the saying "the only way to keep a secret amongst 3 ppl is to kill 2 of them" in other words...if theres anything to be known, someone will eventually talk.

Re: Boycott Aruba?

IMO, boycotting Aruba will accomplish as much as th US changing the name of French fries to Freedom fries. I understand the mother trying to get answers, but to try and damage a whole countries economy seems overboard. Yes, their government is seedy, but hey wait so is ours.

Re: Boycott Aruba?

I think it is very unfortunate what happened in Aruba to that young girl but apparently she was a girl who did NOT use very good judgement although that does not make it right at all!!!! This was a very publicized story with alot of things that seemed very wrong!

I went to Aruba on my HM and would go back in a heartbeat if given the chance! We loved it there and can't wait to go back again! I would not boycott!
