My job just asked me if I wanted a promotion
To become a manager.  My boss is leaving and they want me to take his job. It's such a hard decision cause it's longer hours, (7 til 5...I work 6-2 now) harder work, more stressful but double salary. I said I wasn't sure right now.

I know that it's bittersweet for you at the moment but just wanted to say congratulations! It's nice that they recongnize your hardwork and ability to take this role. Whatever your decision is - be proud of yourself!

I say go for it! I am sure you will do a great job. You have a stomach ache now, because of the unknown, but I know you are hardworking & dedicated and will do a great job.

The fact that they offered you the job means that they know you are competent to do a great job and the fact they are offering to double your salary means that they appreciate as a worker. Right now you feel like that because of the new situation and of the unknown. I said you should take it.

Thanks everyone. Verizon recently took away managements pension though. That cant be good. Then I would have to save my own retirement $.

Congrats! That's a nice complient on your work, and double the salary is great! I'd do it for a year or two and then think about moving to a management position elsewhere with a pension. But the double salary and increased responsibilities will give you great leverage when you decide to move on, IMO.

CONGRATULATIONS on being recognized and for getting extended the offer.. it shows what a fine job you already do that they think so highly of you (but I know the decision is a tough one, and not just about the money  )
