not to bad, but you would have to gut and then your taxes would be up in the 8-9's, if not higher. Its Smithtown Township, taxes are insane

Taxes only go up if oyu change the square footage of the house. If you knock down walls and paint, taxes dont go up fir that. They go up cause we decided to live on li

OH YES THEY ARE, when compared with most of Suffolk county, they are. Even capes in Nesconset on tiny lots are usually in the 6's. I'm born & raised there. Trust me on this one. Even with the star program, they are high.

As for taxes going up, if you were to do any gutting, you would probably been starting ground up. The square footage is extremely tiny on that house.

I agree - I actually found taxes in Kings Park to be fairly middle of the road. Rarely did I see a house that had taxes over $7k.

in Kings Park? I have seen numerous ones online even with taxes over 9 if not higher. It always depends on what you are looking at. Even that garage in Kings Park has taxes a little of 3,500.

Taxes all over long island are high....I've found in my house search that taxes in smithtown and the neighboring areas aren't as high as some other areas of long island.
You can find houses with reasonable prices.

Gutting I consider rip out, you mean levelling the entire house.. Ok I see

$6K in taxes seems low to me compared to Nassau!

Yes, in KP. I focused mostly in Kings Park (including San Remo), Huntington, Greenlawn, ENPT & NPT. Of all those towns in my range ($400k-520k), Huntington had the highest taxes and I still rarely saw anything over $7600.

ETA: $3500 would be dreamy!

they don't go up as a result of purchasing a home. everyone is entitled to star.

Yes everyone is entitled to Star but the taxes DO get re-assessed when you purchase the house..Chat Icon

The fancy term for that type of house is Carraige house! Which basically is a garage with an apartment on top!
