Isn't This Totally Effed Up? Boss story, tmi? HaHa

um.... as some of you may remember me saying my boss is a very nasty hostile person...
ANYWAY.... today she tells us girls (she has 4 employees) that one of us smells like SPERM and/or MENSTRUAL FLUIDS!
I wont go into details of the nastiness that she went on and on about... (like that we have sex and dont shower?!)
BUT she will not say who it is... so we are all paranoid and we are pretty sure that it is either myself or this other girl....
Um... NONE of us smell!!!! We ALL talked and luaghed about it and we all said honestly that we would tell one another. It serisouly does NOT make any sense.
Me and the other girl (who we are thinking its between) are very close and we got VERY upsert about it.
We think shes crazy, but whatever... it made us feel very unconfortable. We all shower and do NOT come to work after sex without showering, we are clean when we have our period and so on.....
How would you deal with this????????

Honestly, that's sexual harassment. You should all band together and tell her that if she continues to harass you all with inappropriate and sexual comments like that, you will contact an attorney - and Jes - DOCUMENT what happened!

how do you document it.
we all think its sooo crazy becuase she somehow has some magical nose that can smell something that NO ONE else can.

You just write it down - word for word, as much as you remember and the date that it happened. Any time she says anything like this to you, you document it. If you need to prove this in court, you want the documentation.

I don't mean for this to come out wrong...but if you are seriously offended I would contact HR ASAP. But I would only do that if you're majorly offended. You don't know how HR is going to react. You don't know how your boss is going to react. They could make your life hell for filing the complaint.

I don't blame you for being offended. I probably would be as well. But just make sure you want to open up a can of worms before you do so.

well theres no HR dept or anything of a higher power to contact. she is the owner of this little boutique....
i'm just wondering if it comes up again how to handle it. what to say to her.

i just got off the phone with the other girl and we think its so obserd and that she is completely nuts.

its really how she said it that really upset us. and the fact that if she is thinking of one person inparticular (which she is.) then she should have just told that one person.

she is ALWAYS picking on me and this other girl. I guess b/c we are the younger ones there.... but its not really approriate i feel.
even if we DID smell to high heaven, its HOW she goes about it.

and we dont smell anyway.

Seriously I would flip out if someone said that to me. Next time tell her well its not us so maybe its you??? and say it loud. Why should you be embarassed??? I think a dose of her own medicine would shut her right up.

Next time she says something like that, I would just turn around and be like, you know the funny thing is I only smell it when you come around. But it was totally uncalled for, s*cks you dont have an hr department

she said it privatly to each one of us on the phone
i dont plan on making a formal complaint... that would just make things messy and i would lose my job, i just was wondering how to deal with HER

Jess, I think ou need to look for another job. That's so gross. I think making a complaint to the EEOC is a good idea, but I don't know much they can do to her. I think you just need to get out of there.

Can the four of you confront her? Ask her to name the person she claims has this problem and then the other three of you will be there to contradict her and say that she does not smell and that obviously the problem is with HER.

ok not for nothing but "WHO SAYS THAT" she is definitely a freak ....If i were you I would buy that Ordor spray and leave it on her desk with a bow .......

She is a pig!!! Totally unprofessional!! Jess, you guys don't deserve to be spoken like that. Like a few others have already said, DOCUMENT everything!! Maybe you can all ban together and tell her that if this type of behavior continues, you're going to speak to a lawyer!!
I like the idea of leaving a deodorant spray on her desk with a bow.

yeah its so weird. its so silly, but for some reason its really bothering me and the other girl. we called each other at 11pm last night to vent about her!!!
we both definatly want another job, but this one is so convienant. it pays pretty well for a "shop" and the other girl is from Sweden and cant legally work on the books for a year .
We may look for something. hopefully together.
we'll see.

we think what we're going to do... is tomorrow on Saturday (we boht work) We are going to DROWN ourselves in perfume all day long. that shall be funny.

Ew. I don't think anyone could recognize a smell like that....I mean would any of us be able to sniff someone and go...."Yup...you just had sex or you have your period." ???

She obviously smells herself and is a dirty birdy. All you girls need to have a meeting where she can be open face to face with all of you and everyone can talk. It's easy for someone to talk over the phone...let's see if she can face you girls and say it.
