If you could have any type of furniture custom made and built, what would it be and what kind of wood?

I am doing research.

Phil is almost done with the garage and he wants to start making custom furniture and frames for clients.

well I need a coffee table - DH said he would do it but obviously too busy - so if I had to sub it out .....

I love oak, but only if it matched everything else - so I guess black distressed is what we want in which case it doesn't really matter what wood.

tables would be great -- DH & I spent close to 2 years looking for one that fit our space and needs that we could agree on.

or workstations -- it would be nice to get the exact size, depth you need with custom drawers, cubbies, shelves, what ever you need.

I like mahogany. I'd want deck furniture. I'm not sure how practical it is, but since my family had antique boats made from it I love the wood.

Built in book cases that frame a window wiht window seats that have storage!

We could not find a dining room set and china cabinet we liked that we could afford (meaning, that didn't cost way too much) so we had one made in oak.

i'm into dark wood now, and we went mostly cheap with our furniture so when we "grow up" we'll replace the dining room and bedroom sets.

If I had the $, i'd love to replace my book shelves. I don't know what wood, though.

We had an entertainment center custom built from our friend who is a carpenter.
Because TV's are so big these days, and because our TV didn't come with a storage area we had nothing to put our DVD & cable box on, so our friend built this while we were on our honeymoon.
It is African mahaogany with Walnut accents

You know what I always wanted?
One of those aquarium coffee tables. And my favorite type of wood furniture is cherry wood.

ETA: One piece of furniture that was hard to find was a small hall table that goes in a narrow foyer.

I don't know what I would want built but I would have it done in Bamboo.

When DH and I have kids, I'd like nice beds with storage/drawers underneath and some kind of shelf/headboard.

I don't know a lot about wood, but my first priority would be something sturdy as opposed to something that looked nice.

My other interest would be custom bookshelves.

I would love a few things:

wooden radiator covers to match furniture
a huge floor mirror with wood frame
bookshelves
new grown -up bedroom furniture
window seats


I could go on and on......

love the distressed wood in colors like green & dark brown or black (whatever wood thats made from, if he paints it to look distressed, I'd buy!)
