Thank God you are ok! Buy a fire extinguisher & keep one in the basement and in your kitchen. You never know when something like that will happen. Thank God for your neighbor as well!

Thanks everyone. I am going to go over there today and thank him. The funny thing is, I always thought he didn't speak english. Everytime I tried to talk to him he ignored me and then would speak another language to his family. Oh well who cares he still saved my dog
And yes I have a fire extinguisher in the basement and kitchen but my first instinct was to call 911 and then he told me to get out of the house immediately. I thought the tanks downstairs would blow up or something.

You SIL was out on the porch but that was it. I am doing ok I just have cough from the smoke so I am going to call my OB and just let him know what happened.

I'm glad you posted. We are in the process of getting an alarm system and thanks to your post I will make sure we will discuss the wiring with the alarm company.

I told him what happened and he can not believe that his father (a retired fire chief) did not come over to help. He is sorry about that and he is worried about you.
