what a great reference thread!

Has anyone done it without curly hair - just wavy?

Mine is just wavy (or was just wavy). I'm going on my 3rd month & life has never been better hairwise.Chat Icon

Sandra - at HV, do you have the option of having them blowout your hair? I'm hair-impaired which is why I went JHS in the first place.

The only reason they make you blow dry it yourself is because they get so busy so it saves them time. That's why when I go back I plan to go during the week when it should be less crowded.

And even if you do have to dry it yourself, it's only for the in between stages when they need your hair dry - it's a messy blow dry, not a styling blow dry so you don't have to be good at blow drying. Chat Icon

Wow, thanks for the comparison, Sandra! You make me want to GET ON THE BALL! I've been saying I'm going to do JHS for about a year now... why am I procrastinating!??? Ugh...I don't want to miss my curls! But what sux bolas, too, is that since giving birth, my hair has been falling out in CLUMPS! Did you have the same, and has it improved with/without JHS?

Chat Icon I should just do it! I can only imagine that it's made your daily routine soooooooo much easier, huh? I would LOVE to just shower and GO!

My daily routine is ridiculously easier since getting this done. But I have to admit I miss being able to just put my hair in pin curls for a little while while, release them and have big flowing curls (something I was able to do when I blow dried my hair myself).

But the time savings is worth it. When I feel like it, I can put time into it with a curling iron and some hairspray.

As for PP hair loss - I might have told you... I got it done at 8 mos pp and my hair falling out in HUGE clumps afterward. But...it was fine... it's going to happen anyway since you are pp. This time it didn't happen.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening Official Thread

I have been thinking about JHS for months now, but I can't seem to reach a decision.

My hair is very fine, with loose curls. It is also highlighted. I have no patience to spend hours on my hair, so I generally just wash it, throw mousse or gel in it, and go. On the rare occasions when my hair is straight, I love it!

Has anyone with really thin hair gotten JHS done? I'm nervous that it is totally going to fry my hair.

Also, did those of you who had JHS done also get new hair styles either at that time or since? I always see all these straight styles that I really like, but I've never bothered doing it, so I love the idea of giving myself a whole new look. Could you post pictures of how you're now wearing your hair, a few months after JHS? Thanks!

I can't answer the part about having thin hair b/c mine is very thick...but I have to say that Jackie - you have VERY nice curls.

As far as the hair styles, the first time I got JHS done, I let them cut my ends and was not happy with how they did it.

The novelty of having low maintenance, pin straight hair does NOT wear off quickly so I really didn't change my style much in the 7 months I had it done. Boring, I know. Chat Icon For special occasions I would put it half up and use the curling iron but that's about it. I cut a few layers in the front when I started to get bored and my longer layers had grown out. But that's it.

I just got it redone this week so I haven't done anything new yet but I plan to play more this time around while it's still low maintenance. I think I'm going to wash some temporary red in and definitely get a cut. Maybe some long layers again since mine grew out.

My SIL wanted me to ask you ladies who have had JHS done..what did your hair feel like immediately after? She said that someone she knows told her that it felt rough and dry for the first few days. Thanks!

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening Official Thread

I went to Top Point today and had a great experience. Got there just before 9:00am, and my SIL and I were taken immediately. I had Tracey, and she had Maggie. It took us both just over 4 hours from start to finish, and we are both thrilled! I don't love these pics of me, but here are before and afters:
