I HATE AETNA!.. need to vent!
argh.. came back from CVS empty handed, because Aetna would not cover my prescription, they will only do generic.. but there isn't a generic brand made for the particular prescription! I was asked to pay $100!!
I hate insurance companies!!!

 which plan do you have with Aetna? I also have them. the plan I have is called "Choice POS II" or something like that.

I have open access.. they recently changed their drug policy.. now you MUST get genenic if they make one.
I never really needed prescription for the years I have Aetna, and now I do, I get this cr*p

next time, make sure your doctor perscribes meds that come in generic too.

Wait, they make a generic but just don't have it at the pharmacy you went to? Or they claim they don't make a generic? because if they don't make a generic, then insurance should cover it.

for this particular drug, the pharmacist told me there isn't a generic brand.. so he has to call my doctor to have her switch to another comparible brand that does have a generic... and being sunday and easter, obviously my doctor isn't in her office!

I've had this happen and it suks. Tomorrow I'm sure your doc will find another one that you can take that won't cost $100!
Insurance companies can be so infuriating.
ETA: I take a drug that only comes in brand name and if I didn't have insurance it would be $400/mo!!!. It costs me $30.

geesh i have aetna too - i have never had a problem with them and i take over $3000 worth of meds a month- i have pos coverage and i only pay $5 a piece for my prescriptions

I feel horrible for you, but I hate to play devils advocate but will anyway. Aetna doesnt create and give you your drug coverage, your company you work for is the one who decides what drug coverage to purchase for you and is who you should be mad at and direct your concerns with. Insurance companies offer employees a huge range of products, the company then chooses which one they want, obviously its all about cost. The plan they have for you is probably costing them less and either they pass the savings on to you in your premiums or they simply are savings themselves money.
Talk to your HR dept. or head of insurance at your job and see if come open enrollment , they offer either a better plan or you can fight to have them offer one in the future.

We also have Aetna...and my DH doesn't take the generic for one of his perscriptions...the doctor writes on the slip not to substitue with the generic and we've never had a problem getting it covered.

Ugh...I can't stand Aetna either! I was so glad that once DH & I got married I jumped over to his Health Ins. Co.
