We tried to get Home ins. w/ Amica(?) and they ran some check...and picked up a claim on our place and they wanted me to get all this info. for it. We had like no time to spare, etc... so therefore couldn't go with them if we wanted to.Chat Icon

$1129 a year through Travellers and Geico.

That includes the $9000 jewelery policy which I am currently paying $350 through Chubb.

So thats not too bad. At least its not $1700! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

Check that. Now Geico is saying I have to at least insure for my loan amount (316k) so that brings my premium up to $1429 with the jewelery rider.

How is everyone here getting quotes less than $1000?

For those that said how much you are paying... can you say what your coverage is? Mainly for dwelling and personal?

They are quoting me $1229 for 316k of dwelling coverage and 225k of personal coverage. This is for a house in Levittown.

Thanks in advance.

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

I dont remember my exact dollar amount but I think it was close to $1600 with state farm and geico wanted close to $2500 and asked me more questions that I could ever possibly answer with out living in the house..
Geico asked how many outlets are in the house, how far is the nearest fire hydrent, how far is the nearest fire house in feet, the age of the siding on the house the age of the roof, and they werent talking approx. after about 45 min of this B/S I nearly hung up on them.

I actually want to start shopping around again but havnt had a chance yet.

I have been calling up for the house we are closing on in Levittown. The best quote so far is MetLife @ $695 plus $315 for $25,000 coverage for jewlery.

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

Ok.... well i just got what I feel is a half-way decent offer.

$799 for Liberty Mutual which includes 235k of dwelling and 9k worth of jewlery.

Not too shabby.

I am gonna call MetLife tomorrow. But so far Liberty has the lead.

EDIT: I had the numbers slightly wrong. $799 is for 235k worth of dwelling. I also quoted $1049 for 316k worth of dwelling. Both include my jewelery rider.

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

DJ, I broke out my policy for you. I pay $732/year through Allstate. Mind you I also have our car insurance through them as well, so there's a discount for multi-policies. Here's what I have (all numbers in thousands):

Dwelling Protecion: $310
Other Structure Protection: $30
Personal Property: $250
Additional Living Expenses: 12 Months
Family Liability: $500 (per occurrence)
Guest Medical: $5 (each person)

No Riders

Hope this Helps

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

What do you mean when you say "expanded to". How does that work?

And did that include any jewelry?

Re: how much do you pay for homeowners insurance?

Just called MetLife and they pretty much want the same amount that GEICO/Travellers wanted. About $1400 a year.

PLUS... MetLife said they probably wouldn't even be able to write the policy because they are "overwritten" in that neighborhood.

I guess too many people in the town have MetLife and if a big tsunami swept by... they would get screwed. Chat Icon

Looks like Liberty Mutual... still the lowest for me.
