i was thinking about this the other day. i really DO wish that they'd charge a fee- a one time thing- for like $5 or $10. that would discourage SO many of the fakies, and the lurkers.
i mean, even if you had to register to read the posts, thats easy enough to do, so that really doesnt filter it out that much.
and by making it a pay-for right... then it wouldnt show up when you google your screen name
I do belong to another moms group that does require this. Its $10 a year. I pay it more to be kept in the loop with local goings on and stuff not really to post on their board though.
I see what you're saying but I think it would only discourage the "harmless" fakies and lurkers.
If you are worried about a real threat from dangerous lurkers or someone tracking you down, $10 is not alot to pay for some info, infact its a bargain IMO. I think a sicko would pay the fee....

i wonder what would happen if one day we all came on to log into LIF, and it said "click here to pay the new yearly membership fee of $ ___" 
(lets say its minimal at $25/year)
i can only imagine the withdrawals we'd all have and wind up paying the fee anyway!!

I don't think a fee would stop anyone from registering it and getting information that they "think" they might need. I think it would probably affect harmless posters as the poster said above. I think this site makes it appealing because it's free and I'd think the businesses that are marketed here are the ones paying the fee for advertisement. I guess it's the same concept like the daily newspapers given in the city(Metro, AM) that are free and the businesses pay for it while for users is free and they reach a greater mass of people. And to answer the question, I'd not pay a fee.
