although azz kissers and some people with obvious talent and intelligence seem to always succeed regardless of they way they look...

so there are exceptions IMO

Yes, your looks are definitely part of the hiring process (overweight , unattractive) and yes your appearnance can hold you back, or in some cases, get you promoted.

My managers would only hire good looking receptionists even though most spoke as if they had marbles in their mouths.

I think they face bias in every single aspect of life, and it is so sad. Every day I thank g0d I am not really ugly.

Oh yeah...Your appearence is one of the first impressions people get and can totally skew them.

But on the flip side, being young and cute can also hurt your career. I'm an attorney and I can't tell you how many times someone says to me "You're an attorney?!". I get harassed all the time by other attorneys/judges. Granted, sometimes I use their perversion and stupidity to my advantage (just won a case last week flirting with a judge), but other times, it really hurts me. Meanwhile, I have a co-worker who is my age, but not exactly the cutest thing you've ever seen, to put it gently, and clients tend to favor her over me because they take her more seriously... either way looks play a role.

Yea,, I never got hired anywhere becuase I was always so beautiful.. Its tough sometimes..

I completely agree....however I do agree with bxgell as well. It works both ways. Unfortunate but true. If I wanted to get crazy I could really cite a few examples of how I am being held back in my company due to the way I look.

I think too, that attractive people have more confidence that comes from being good looking.
