FH teaches in Queens - he draws a map of LI to show his students that yes they DO live on LI!!!

He says, Geopolitically, queens and brooklyn are part of NYC, since they are apart of the 5 boroughs.

but physically, they are on LI!

Ok...so where di I fit in if I am from Upstate NY?...I am a long islander now, but it's soo obnious I am not a native.

Although even saying upstate NY is debateable bc many people think Buffalo, or maybe I just need to say the Adirondacks, but then is that the catskills or Lake George?

does it matter is geographically Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties are all phycially on the same island.

the Bronx and Westchester counties are on the same land mass...are they all the same too?

it just seems like it's a sticking point on here and I am very curious as to why? thanks.

I was born in Manhattan and raised on LI never claiming to be a city girl because I spent only a week at the hospital after I was born.

I was always comfortable growing up and knowing that Nassau and Suffolk counties (like Westchester and Rockland counties) are suburbs of NYC. Many of our parents were born in the city limits and moved their families to these counties to buy homes. Some still commute from these suburbs and developed strong attachments to various parts of the city. My father was a business owner in Brooklyn (my family still is) so the city has much meaning to us.
